<frosteyes>
Morning. I am integrating meta-scipy into a project, and it need openblas-native with fortran. This apperently requires gfortran on the host system. So I am a bit puzzled that libgfortran.inc has BBCLASSEXTEND = "nativesdk" but not native..
<frosteyes>
I don't like to have an extra system compiler from the host system, so was wondering what the reason behind this, but could not find something in the mailing list archive.

<ithinkthatmaybe>
Hi all. I have a question also. To create a signed .fit image for verity secure boot, I need to access to kernel Image file from a dependent recipe. LLMs seem to incorrectly suggest DEPENDing on "virtual/kernel" and pulling the kernel from ${STAGING_KERNEL_DIR}/boot. But from what I can see ${STAGING_KERNEL_DIR} has no role in providing compiled
<ithinkthatmaybe>
artifacts. I'm currently using ${DEPLOY_DIR_IMAGE}, but this seems likely to have some shortfalls. Is there a more correct way to do this?
<mcfrisk>
ithinkthatmaybe: what is available after DEPENDS += "virtual/kernel"? It's the packaged binaries in sysroot. If deploy tasks are added explicitly to dependencies, then the deploy directory can be used to take binaries from. But depending on do_deploy is tricky and many get this wrong. tasks in a recipe need to set task level depdency to do_deploy if the needed it

<ithinkthatmaybe>
mcfrisk, thanks for the response. With `DEPENDS += "virtual/kernel"` I see no changes to recipe-sysroot/. I've tried adding `d.appendVarFlag('do_fitimage', 'depends', "linux-yocto:do_deploy")`. This seems not to have any effect on recipe-sysroot/ either. Have I understood your suggestion correctly?

ithinkthatmaybe: kernel seems to be treated differently. maybe there are dependency loops which are bypassed using deploy instead of normal install paths

Hi, Is there a suggested ("official") way to handle things like switching between building dev/release builds of images?

Jones42: the least offensive way is to have separate distress.
<Jones42>
LetoThe2nd: thanks!
<Jones42>
(is that the official plural form?!)
<LetoThe2nd>
nope. its autocorrect.

"distros".
