jclsn: feel free to finish off https://git.yoctoproject.org/poky-contrib/log/?h=ross/cmake-wip. using relwithdebug seems like the right thing to do but ... something went wrong so I tried defining a new build type without the semantics of relwithdebug and that breaks other things.

I have an annoying error building with kirkstone: ninja: build stopped: subcommand failed - gdk-pixbuf_2.42.9.bb:do_compile) failed with exit code '1'
<mckoan>
looks like is a FAQ with no clear solution. Do you have any hint?
<rburton>
read earlier in the log to find the actual failure. ninja builds will be massively parallel so you might need to scroll some distance.
<mckoan>
rburton: I see several "Failed to close file descriptor for child process (Operation not permitted)" may be caused by my build in a docker instance?
<rburton>
possibly, but we do builds in a docker just fine
<rburton>
if you made your own container then it's not trivial and i recommend using a battle-tested one (kas, crops)
<mckoan>
rburton: indeed, I'm considering to grasp settings from CROPS, thank you

I have a question about the process to get an updated package version in meta-openembedded Dunfell: The postgresql version in dunfell (12.17) has a CVE open with a "Base Score High" ( CVE-2024-0985 ). Should I open a Bugzilla issue ("postgresql has a CVE") and send a patch for the postgresql update?
<pretec>
<RP>
pretec: it is in meta-oe so no bugzilla entry needed. Policy is not to upgrade but to add fixes where possible so you'll need to make the case for why that doesn't make sense
<JaMa>
RP: thanks
<RP>
heh
<pretec>
RP: Ah, i see. I just checked the git history of the postgresql recipe and it the last two or three changes where minor version bumps.
<RP>
pretec: minor version might be ok for a security fix
<pretec>
Ah, nice! It would be 12.17 to 12.18. I'll
<pretec>
Ah, nice! It would be 12.17 to 12.18. I'll prepare a patch, let's see. Worst case that can happen is the patch is rejected by the branch maintainer and i learned something :-)

rburton, genericarm64 branch should be on poky-contrib/ross/? don't pollute poky branches please, unless it was intended
<jclsn>
rburton: Something? I would build everything as Release by default, which a colleague of mine claims that Yocto already does
<jclsn>
If you want debug symbols, you should explicitly set the build as far as I am concerned
<jclsn>
or well, if you are very strict -DNDEBUG should be the default, as it aleady is. Release implies the code is ready for shipping, although it may not be
<jclsn>
Oh this just turns of asserts.. Weird na,e

<ederibaucourt>
RP:Meanwhile I've been looking for alternatives to provide the compiler path to the VSCode SDK configuration. There is currently none. I did open an issue on the appropriate extension's GitHub to see if they could implement configuring the $PATH.
