Dear rust, thank you for your contribution to global warming.

paulg: for rust, we need a way to use a precompiled binary
<paulg>
and cargo...
<paulg>
we'll get RP to add it to next Tues meeting agenda.

paulg: you can use ASSUME_PROVIDES (if your host rust is really good enough) or locked signatures (if you decide you don't need new rust)
<abelloni>
my idea was more to fetch a precompile rust
<paulg>
JaMa, I don't actually have a host rust. But I have an -native rust that Yocto built 26 hours ago...
<JaMa>
paulg: then 2nd part
* paulg
will look into locked signatures.

kanavin: do you remember if there is a reason why gst-examples weren't updated to follow other gst* recipes from new unified gstreamer repo?
<paulg>
I admit my use case might not be "normal" -- people settle on a release and do their work there. I pull the latest and then build just to see "hey, what catches fire today?"
<paulg>
but getting sick of building rust/llvm/cargo crap.

paulg: for years there is an open bug for a bblock and bbunlock command. The usage here would be "bblock rust-native"
* RP
has mentioned the bug a fair bit, nobody listens
<RP>
but yes, precompiled rust is the other option

<abelloni>
RP: I can't find were we download the precompiled rust, can you point it to me?
<RP>
abelloni: rust-snapshot.inc ?
<abelloni>
ah yes, I didn't reat the first line and thought this was pointing at sources
<paulg>
heh. google "bbunlock" shows me a bunch of ancient threads on how to root your BlackBerry.
<paulg>
Now I'm probably on some FBI watch-list.

is it possible to run equivalent of "bitbake -S none base-files" in eSDK?
<RP>
JaMa: probably if you move the locked sigs out the way
<JaMa>
RP: and sourcing regular oe-init script in layers/poky inside the eSDK? that gives me different signature (while I wanted to debug the one locked in eSDK) - if this description makes any sense :)
<JaMa>
for context, the eSDK tests are failing when uninative is disabled (with "inherit uninative" and "require conf/distro/include/yocto-uninative.inc" commented out from poky.conf, now it's trying to rebuild pseudo-native after base-files.do_install sig is reported to be different, but I don't know where it got that different sig, https://dpaste.com/7BUL43F7B
<JaMa>
I can try changing generated local.conf until it starts matching, but wanted to see bitbake-diffsigs first to narrow down the options :)
<JaMa>
hmm Variable METADATA_REVISION value changed from '9efebda18dbfbfd6da35a98dc396eb011a8a57b8' to '6baab49cf5c0c9bf4bcdaac01c355a0c6c848723'

JaMa: ah, that would do it. You might have to leave base-files locked
<RP>
although I wouldn't expect METADATA_REVISION to change much except base-file

RP: yes, I'm surprised that METADATA_REVISION was different as well, but I might be comparing wrong siginfo files in the end (one revision was my poky branch as of yesterday and 2nd one from today).. now I've reproduced the same issue without using selftest (just -c populate-ext-sdk and trying to install it fails the same when uninative is disabled)
<JaMa>
RP: will do the same in another build dir from scratch again tomorrow with uninative enabled to see which signatures I'll get
<RP>
JaMa: I'd have to start playing with builds as my memory of this is a bit fuzzy atm
<JaMa>
RP: you already have enough on your plate, I didn't want to drag you into this
<JaMa>
I was hoping that someone else with some eSDK experience (I haven't used it before) will reply
