Sampersand: what on earth would lead you to conclude that ruby is dying?
<Sampersand>
Harder to find jobs
<Sampersand>
only a few companies use it compared to previous
<ih8u>
it's not the flavor of the week anymore
<ih8u>
it's mature
<ih8u>
that's like saying "java is dead"
<Sampersand>
it's not hard to find java jobs
<ih8u>
that's my point
<ih8u>
but i guess others would know more about that than i would
<ih8u>
i'm not looking for a job
<ih8u>
thought the last time i was, ruby was definitely around without my specifically looking for it
<Sampersand>
you cant honestly tell me you haven't seen the community declining?
<Sampersand>
going to rubyconfs, the average age is growing, no new people are really being added
<ih8u>
you could say the same thing about many, many confs
<ih8u>
including linux
<ih8u>
and i certainly wouldn't classify linux as dead or dying
<Sampersand>
that's fair
<ih8u>
maybe the simpler answer is that young people just aren't interested in those kinds of things
<weaksauc_>
isene it would be good to have rcurses be able to be build to somewhere more userspace
<weaksauc_>
target_dir = '/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby' is outside of normal convention i would think
<weaksauc_>
oh all you are using the extension thing is to fake a make and copy that file... i'd let gem handle the code movement
<weaksauc_>
lsblk is not a common exe from what i can tell... maybe just use ls for the example
<weaksauc_>
other than that it's pretty interesting
<weaksauc_>
i'd like to see a more fleshed out example program or two and some screenshots on the readme
<weaksauc_>
drop the extensions from the gemspec and add the lib/rcurses.rb file to the file and you should be good to go i think ... extensions are mainly used to compile C extensions to the ruby gem
<weaksauc_>
(or rust or whatever)

on my development machine Thread started up quickly enough, but on the production machine (sbc) the start-up is sometimes too slow. since some threads get started within a loop it sometimes happens, that the second thread runs before the first. I know that .join waits for the thread to return, but is there a method to block the script until the thread is loaded? (ofc I could do that with a global var, but that seems to be ugly.)
<Na_Klar>
... maybe with .status
<Na_Klar>
although there seems to be no .status before the thread was started, and nil means terminated with exception.
