<dnkl> today I've had a couple of foot crashes, due to a failed truncation of shm pool fd. this is something I've *never* seen before.
<dnkl> I don't know what could cause it other than the GPU reset commit in river.
<dnkl> I've gone back to the river commit just before it. Will see how it goes
<dnkl> just wanted to mention this as an FYI
<ifreund> dnkl: that commit should have no effect unless there is an actual GPU reset, which you would probably notice
<ifreund> it would also show up in dmesg for example
<dnkl> yeah, my thoughts as well
<dnkl> just don't have another explanation...
<ifreund> I'd think the wlroots 0.18 upgrade would be a more likely culprit
<dnkl> ah, yeah, of course
<dnkl> hmm... this is at work. might have to go back to 0.17 for now
<ifreund> if that indeed stops the crashes that would be a useful data point to have :)
<dnkl> yup. Won't be able to test during the weekend. Will see next week

<NemoGuest48> Hi there again!
<NemoGuest48> Is there someone using river with turnstile by any chance? I have reeealy weird experience with screensharing
<NemoGuest48> It worked with elogind and after removing it it stopped working, but then it worked with turnstile and then it randomly stopped and now it works but only halfway... The chances are so random I don't even know what is happening...
<ifreund> NemoGuest48: I use chimera linux so yes
<ifreund> this isn't at all related to turnstile though
<ifreund> probably your user dbus session lacks a valid WAYLAND_DISPLAY environment variable
<ifreund> in any case, the troubleshooting tips on the xdg-desktop-portal-wlr github wiki are great, give those a try if you get stuck
<NemoGuest48> Well turnstile fixed dbus session, but then it stopped working for some reason...
<NemoGuest48> please give me a second, I will try something...
<ifreund> presumably dbus-update-activation-environment should work too

<NemoGuest48> Perhaps the best way to describe an issue is to send a video, is magic-wormhole okay?
<ifreund> I don't see how a video would help
<ifreund> have you gone through the troubleshooting steps here? https://github.com/emersion/xdg-desktop-portal-wlr/wiki/%22It-doesn't-work%22-Troubleshooting-Checklist

<upsala> I can't use regex for the -title option in rules right?
catman has joined #river
<NemoGuest48> Yes, I did. I'm not very clever with describing, but screenshare works, but apparently doesn't? For example, Firefox does see my screen, as well as python script provided in XDPW wiki, but obs and electron apps do not. They did previously though!
<upsala> Oh I just saw there is a closed issue on this but without any conclusion. Is there something planned to have some functionality like title startswith or endswith?e
<upsala> I guess I'll explain what the issue is I'm encountering and maybe there is a solution to it. I am using obsidian and have 2 separate vaults that I'd like to autostart on 2 different tags. Unfortunately the view title for obsidian is "<vaultname> - Obsidian <version number>" which means I'd have to update the rules every time obsidian gets an update
aryak has joined #river
<ifreund> upsala: rules support basic globbing as described in the riverctl man page
<ifreund> so "*- Obsidian *" should work
<ifreund> (mabye need single quotes cause shell)
<ifreund> NemoGuest48: I think the issue is with obs and electron apps then, river and xdpw are working correctly
<upsala> oh, well did not see it in the manpage. Thanks
<ifreund> no problem!
<NemoGuest48> ifreund could be true if they wouldn't work previously... Perhaps zeus striked me and xbps randomly updated obs and all electron configs... Or maybe some specific environment var I missed
<NemoGuest48> Some black magic is happening i'm not aware of

<NemoGuest48> Figured it out! Electron depends on $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable, and turnstile does not set it for me (previously it did). Still need to figure out why
<NemoGuest48> 'export_dbus_address' is set to 'yes' in /etc/turnstile/turnstiled.conf . Perhaps it's not what I think it is?
<NemoGuest48> Obs is still broken though :(

<upsala> Can I make the bottom of my waybar the top of the screen for boundary purposes?

<tiosgz> upsala: not sure if i understand what you want. i assume you have waybar at the top edge of the screen and currently windows are shown above / obscured by it
<tiosgz> in which case you are interested in waybar's exclusive zone (it has got a setting for that)
<upsala> pretty much that you can't move floating views over/under waybar
<upsala> I'll look into that exclusive zone thing
<tiosgz> oh, floating windows. i don't even recall what river does with them & exclusive zone (& i don't have a bar now to check)
<tiosgz> (btw judging by my config the setting is either implied by "mode" or "modes.*.exclusive")
