<leon-p>
hmmm... sometimes the left half of my split keyboard stops working. not sure if that's a bug in the keyboard groups implementation, or the keyboard itself

<Cornelius-Figgle>
how does one set the keymap in river?
<Cornelius-Figgle>
I've never understood why WMs/compositors dont default to the system keymap (ie the one in the tty)

Cornelius-Figgle: the riverctl(1) man page describes a keyboard-layout command
<ifreund>
as for the second question, doesn't loadkeys use a different format that's not xkb compatible
<ifreund>
I assume X11 is to blame for reinventing that wheel and getting everyone to use their xkb keymap format/features
<Cornelius-Figgle>
ifreund: thanks, I forgot man pages exist

happens :)

The Godot game engine always starts floating for me. If I run `toggle-float`, it works just fine. What would cause it to start floating, and can I make it start tiled like everything else? It's an Xwayland app, but other Xwayland apps don't seem to have this problem.

rcorre: we have some basic heuristics that try to automatically float windows that seem to be "popups"/"dialogs"
<ifreund>
but they aren't perfect and X11 programs do lots of strange things
<ifreund>
you could define a float rule for it if using river master, but that feature hasn't made it into a release yet

Thanks! I'm looking at the new rules feature on master now. How can I figure out what the app-id of a window is to write a rule for it? I've only seen answers saying you can use sway-msg to get this in sway, is there a river alternative?
<rcorre>
Cool, thanks! If I'm testing `river` in a nested session (running river from an existing river session), is there a way to send keyboard events to the nested session? It seems the outer session captures them first.
<ifreund>
rcorre: I use a "passthrough" mode with no mappings defined except one to exit it for that
