Stupid question. I just started river from terminal login ... What are the default key binds to open a terminal at the very least or do I need to switch tty and configure it before I start it?

<novakane>
it depends if you use the example config, it uses foot as terminal and the binding is Super+Shift Return

<Shinyzenith[m]>
The chromium bug I mentioned this week is now way too common leading me to loose a research document I wrote...
<Shinyzenith[m]>
I have no other choice but to run river under valgrind now I suppose.
<wrl>
i haven't been able to get chromium to work with the wayland ozone platform on river in months
<NickH>
You write research papers in a web browser?
<wrl>
i always start it with --ozone-platform=x11
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
whats happeingin
<Shinyzenith[m]>
NickH: No, I keep chromium open for taking references etc. Since river itself crashes hence vim crashes and you can guess what happened from there on out
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
use firefox :P jk. actually, that chromium bug has been going on for quite a while
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Are you certain it's chromiums bug? If yes a link to the issue tracker would help.
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Because as of now I've crashed when the surface was unmapped
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Rivertile tried to commit its layout and segfault
<Shinyzenith[m]>
s/segfault/then it segfaulted./
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
Shiny, what build version of river are u using?
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Master branch
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Debug symbols have been not been stripped out.
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
and what distribution and chromium version?
<Shinyzenith[m]>
I'll check
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Chromium 102
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Artix
<NickH>
Shinyzenith[m]: ouch
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
Shinyzenith:
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
see dms
<NickH>
I'm using firefox for the vast majority of my web browsing but I do sometimes have a need for chromium.
<NickH>
I haven't had any crashes though. Also on chromium 102. On Debian stable.
<Shinyzenith[m]>
The crash is fairly inconsistent
<Shinyzenith[m]>
After like 40 minutes of using it crashes
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Sometimes it's 20 or 15
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Really variable
<NickH>
Not correlated with any particular web site?
<Shinyzenith[m]>
I had it on twitch YouTube and some static pages too
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Heck even github
<NickH>
Hmm, I guess you want to understand and fix it, but if it happens that often there is no way I'd still be using chromium.
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Understandable..I just can't stand ~/.mozilla
<Shinyzenith[m]>
But I guess I don't have much of a choice now given that I'm loosing hours of work over this.
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
Shinyzenith[m]: whats wrong with it?
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
oh
<uncomfyhalomacr4>
i get it
<Shinyzenith[m]>
uncomfyhalomacr4: `~/.` that bothers me
<NickH>
So ~/.config/mozilla would be ok?
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Absolutely
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Even hardcoding ~/.config over xdg config home is fine imo.
<Shinyzenith[m]>
I personally prefer Firefox. I only use chromium because electron creates ~/.pki anyways so might as well kill two birds with one stone and use chromium
<NickH>
I'm not a fan of hundreds of ~/.foo files either but it seems like it would be a loosing battle if I were choose what software to use based on it.
<Shinyzenith[m]>
Absolutely agree with you on that one. That's why I use emacs even though it creates ~/.
<Shinyzenith[m]>
It's simply a good text editor.

Shinyzenith[m]: no luck setting up core dumps?
<ifreund>
There's unfortunately not much I can do to fix this without a backtrace of some kind to go on
<ifreund>
and just to be clear, even if chromium is doing something strange river shouldn't crash
