nothing out of the ordinary. lswt 1.0.4 uses the wl_output.name event, which was added in wl_output version 4. Your river build only has the older version 3. So you need to either (a) update river, or (b) downgrade lswt to a version that still uses xdg_output.name

<NickH>
wl_output version 4 is provided by a more recent wlroots?
<NickH>
Or more recent river?
<NickH>
The problem exists on a river build from the head of the main branch 7 days ago.

NickH: each river version is compatible with exactly one wlroots version, more recent river and more recent wlroots mean the same thing
<ifreund>
what wlroots version are you building river against? river master requires 0.15 since december or so
<ifreund>
and what does river -version say?

NickH: sorry for the confusion, when I said I was on the latest river release, I was mistaken. My laptop runs a slightly newer commit.
<ifreund>
shouldn't matter, the latest release also uses wlroots 0.15

they probably made the patch because at the moment of wlroots 0.15 release wayland was not updated to 1.20 in the target branch. I did the same for Fedora backports, so I totally get their motivation
<NickH>
LOL
<NickH>
Yeah from the git log for their package, it was to allow building with wayland 1.19. See https://0x0.st/oA9O.txt
