cfbolz changed the topic of #pypy to: #pypy PyPy, the flexible snake https://pypy.org | IRC logs: https://quodlibet.duckdns.org/irc/pypy/latest.log.html#irc-end and https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/pypy | the pypy angle is to shrug and copy the implementation of CPython as closely as possible, and staying out of design decisions

<mattip> I asked if anyone is really using PyPy on hacker news an hour ago, it made the front page.
<mattip> let's see if we get a real response or just "I follow it, nice project"
<mattip> so far it's more "I thought about it, but use something else to make python go faster"

<fijal> it seems to me like "making python fast" is often an afterthought
<fijal> and when it's actually an afterthought, then it's hard to use pypy
<fijal> eh
<fijal> I should write a long article about that

<sam_> we definitely do have a few users who actually use pypy for real wokr
<sam_> work
<sam_> we just struggle to get people to tell us, until something breaks :(
<mattip> what kind of work? Are there any bottlenecks or incompatibilities you can tell us about?

<mattip> the hacker news question just fell off the front page
<mattip> it is still #2 on Ask https://news.ycombinator.com/ask
<mattip> so there are some nice comments and use cases, but nothing revolutionary

<mattip> Dejan: hi
<Dejan> Heya!
<mattip> on the hacker news pypy thread, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36940871
<mattip> there was talk about database drivers
<mattip> you were looking for postgresql, right?
<Dejan> I switched to psycopg3
<Dejan> it works with PyPy
<Dejan> problem is that some of our "legacy" projects can't switch to it yet... so they are stuck with psycopg2-binary
<Dejan> psycopg3 works really well with PyPy
<mattip> +1. Is it performant?
<Dejan> I did not benchmark, but it works without any problems
<mattip> cool, thanks
