Dejan: can you write it down for me? it would be a useful copy-paste for a lot of folks (newer != better)
<Dejan>
fijal, write what down?
<fijal>
Dejan> I wish I was here to tell him that I prefer simplicity of IRC over Discord
<Dejan>
Ah, that... :)
<Dejan>
IRC is a good example of the KISS principle :)
<LarstiQ>
Dejan: needing a vps or such to have persistent connection/logs though is a hurdle that many people aren't used to
<LarstiQ>
so it's not simpler from every angle
<Dejan>
LarstiQ, i never cared for logs
<Dejan>
Sure some other people may need them more than me
<Dejan>
I would argue that having ability to go through logs may actually have a negative impact too. I am sure many people would come to the channel, ask question, and go expecting to see the answer(s) in the logs at some point in the future. Instead of waiting for the answer. :)
<Dejan>
Sure there are lots of good conversations that get lost - people who benefit from them are those who were PRESENT at the channel at that time
<Dejan>
Anyways, different people, different opinions ofc
<LarstiQ>
Dejan: it's a very different experience than people expect coming from Discord, Slack, etc, etc
<Dejan>
Sure it is... no doubt
<Dejan>
My company uses Slack for many things, that is a good example when chat history is actually needed
<Dejan>
Need of a bot if you need IRC logs may seem inadequate but not many channels need it I think only channels where some "working group" gather to talk about things...
