Does Project Combine mean that someday one may be able to use state-of-the-art (or close to it) FPGAs without crummy proprietary toolchains? Even better, is there a chance that it will do to those toolchains what GCC did to bad proprietary C compilers?
<mupuf>
DemiMarieObenour: that's for #prjunnamed
<mupuf>
this is the reverse engineering effort, while prjunnamed is the creation of the associated toolchain
<mupuf>
in any case, let's temper expectations please
<mupuf>
But yeah, the new approach is IMHO more likely to succeed than anything done before, but there is long road ahead and it will take more than just a handful of out-of-this-world cat girls to make the project as established as GCC. But damn are they blowing my mind with their pace of progress!
<mupuf>
I believe what they need now is support so that they can do what they do best, without pressure.
