<KomiaPoika> hi
<KomiaPoika> does regenaxer still attend this channel?
<tankf33der> KomiaPoika: try abu[m]
<abu[m]> Hi KomiaPoika! ☺
<KomiaPoika> abu[m]: are you the author of penti keyboard?
<KomiaPoika> abu[m]: whereis regenaxer
<KomiaPoika> abu[m]: seen regenaxer
<abu[m]> Yes
<KomiaPoika> found penti years ago but just got around to start to use it
<abu[m]> Good idea ;)
<KomiaPoika> if you put in on two tablets, you can type two texts at the same time
<KomiaPoika> impossible with a normal keyboard
<abu[m]> haha, yes, you mean using left and right hand?
<KomiaPoika> yes, on two tablets of the same size
<KomiaPoika> may be even use it for seane
<KomiaPoika> seance
<KomiaPoika> three tablets. two with penti, one in the middle with tarot app
<KomiaPoika> divination of the future
<abu[m]> ☺
<abu[m]> Using the non-dominant hand needs even more practicing
<abu[m]> I tried my left hand for a while, but it was not really necessary
<KomiaPoika> yea just kidding. it's just scary how much practice is needed. but the idea of typing laid back in a comfy chair with a full hands, and not two thumbs, is really appealing.
<KomiaPoika> with a full hand*
<KomiaPoika> i wonder if you made a study, take a bunch of teenagers, who never had phones, one group will learn to text with two thumbs like everybody else and other group only can use penti keyboard on a tablet of the size comfortable for their hand. after a year who types faster and with less mistakes. would be interesting
<abu[m]> Yes, it is relaxing. Even more on a phone instead of a tablet, as it is easier to hold in the left hand
<KomiaPoika> i have large hands so i prefer a tablet, but i see what you mean
<abu[m]> Hard to find enough people for such a study
<KomiaPoika> only large companies like logitech would throw money at that kind of study, so then later then can sell penti hardware keyboards. quickly go register a patent for it
<abu[m]> probably
<abu[m]> btw, Nisturdid build a hardware Penti
<KomiaPoika> really
<KomiaPoika> where can i see it
<abu[m]> He showed some pictures. Nistur: awake?
<abu[m]> He used a 3D-printer. Very nice design

<Nistur> hullo
<Nistur> sorry :)
<Nistur> weekends, I'm rarely at my PC
<Nistur> KomiaPoika: o/
<Nistur> let me see what photos I have...
<Nistur> KomiaPoika: https://nistur.keybase.pub/Projects/Penti/index.html <-- There's a brief history of me coming up the design. I haven't updated it with the digital version (I used photogrametry to convert it to a digital model which I then worked on and ended up printing) and also, I used a weird static gallery generator which didn't handle portrait images well, so... either view it on a mobile device, or
<Nistur> just make your web browser tall and narrow and it works a lot better :P
<Nistur> KomiaPoika: https://keybase.pub/nistur/Penti/ There are extra photos here, I just haven't re-generated the site from them, or documented them yet
<Nistur> the last one in the generated gallery is... 12-insert_plan by the look of it
<Nistur> it takes standard Cherry MX switches, and used point-to-point wiring on the inside, to a Teensy 2.0 I think it was
<Nistur> https://github.com/nistur/pentinsy Everything to make it should be there, I think... I haven't created the final model to download - I was going to when I'd test-driven it a bit (I'll get to this in a sec) but there should be a Makefile that takes the scanned model and does a whole load of stuff to it and out _should_ pop the STLs to print it, if you're interested
<Nistur> it uses a combination of OpenSCAD, and meshlab to create the final thing. It's split up into a bunch of steps, because it was a lot easier to iterate on it like that... some of the steps weren't precisely quick to process, and openSCAD can get slow
<Nistur> so... not having released the final model... is because I found it very difficult to actually type on. I originally designed it with the plan to put silent keyswitches in it, so I could use it while sitting on the bed, next to MiniNisturette getting to sleep in the cot next to it... but it took much longer than that to get it made, and she's now sleeping in her own room. For using at that level, or even
<Nistur> putting the keyboard on your lap, it works perfectly. If you put it onto a desk however, the angle that it holds your hand at makes it actually very tiring to type. It's super comfortable to do... but really tiring at the same time
<Nistur> so yeah, it works, and it works pretty well, I just never got around to using it in anger at this point, and I'm not sure what to do about it to be honest
<Nistur> I never did figure out how I would fit the display into it... maybe I'll come up with a second design, more comfortable for being on a desk, and I'll encorporate a mount for the little OLED display so it'll show current mode, and the last character or something
<KomiaPoika> wow
