<Nistur>
I have a penti update :P I sanded and filled it... then got bored, as this is just a prototype anyway to test the feel, I decided that perfect smoothness wasn't paramount, so I started painting it. I went for matt black because I didn't have any other colour that wasn't either hammerite (which I thought would look weird) super gloss, or like... pink
<Regenaxer>
Nice :)
<Nistur>
however, I left them out of the shed, in the sun, to dry, so I could sand them back a bit before the final clear coat... and... well... I printed it in PLA, which gets soft 50-60C... it didn't get anywhere near that hot but... black paint
<Nistur>
so my base got soft and shrunk
<Nistur>
the top, thankfully, is still perfect
<aw->
Nistur: pics?
<aw->
hi Nistur Regenaxer
<Regenaxer>
Hi aw-!
<aw->
I also have a Creality
<Nistur>
\o/
<aw->
just checked logs haha
<aw->
welcome to the world of endless fuckery just to make a tiny thing
<aw->
cool, mine is Titan DD and E3D V6 (all metal)
<Nistur>
I was debating what hotend to upgrade to
<aw->
i see you're using Capricorn too, good choice
<Nistur>
almost went with the hemera
<mtsd>
Good morning!
<Nistur>
o7
<Nistur>
aw-: did you see the MDF blank of the keyboard I made first? While I upload photos of the print
<mtsd>
Hahaha, aw-, I am saving the ""welcome to the world of..." quote for use in the future. Suitable for so many, many situations :)
<aw->
hemera looks awesome, i kinda wish i got that instead haha
<aw->
mtsd: haha ok
<aw->
Nistur: no i didn't see it
<Nistur>
aw-: apologies, I pretty much suck at webdev stuff, so I just used a static photo gallery generator, but it doesn't scale the images nicely, and I took them on my phone, so the site hurts in landscape, if you're viewing on a desktop, shrink the browser to being portrait-y and it's more pleasant: https://nistur.keybase.pub/Projects/Penti/index.html
<aw->
oh that's awesome
<aw->
will be much easier to 3d print that haha
<aw->
assuming you can design it ;)
<Nistur>
good point, let me grab a photo of that too
<Nistur>
I didn't design the shape of the keyboard in CAD, I took around 30 photos of it at all angles and then did photogrammetry stuff to magic it into a 3D model
<aw->
wow that sounds like a great idea
<aw->
i guess nowadays the tech is accessible enough for home-users to do that
<aw->
Nistur: i wonder if github pages would serve you well instead of keybase for that site
<aw->
since it's directly related to your project on github
<Nistur>
maybe, but I set up the static site before I had any code
<aw->
i mean.. i didn't even know keybase could be used to host photos and web pages haha
<Nistur>
and now it's effort to migrate it :P
<aw->
yeah that's fine, was just an idea
<Nistur>
keybase has 'kbfs' for storage, but it also provides a basic static webserver
<aw->
how long did it take to print that penti keyboard?
<aw->
ohhhh you have a Makefile to generate the stl
<aw->
that's brilliant
<aw->
stls*
<Nistur>
aw-: Last print time: 24:12:14
<aw->
yikes
<Nistur>
could probably make it faster, and more accurate, by changing orientation and tweaking feed rates etc (it's currently mostly stock in that regard)
<Nistur>
the first print I did of it (the grey one in the photos) was ~3 days :D
<aw->
so you leave it printing overnight i guess... i'm terrified to leave it unattended for more than 5 minutes
<aw->
wow
<Nistur>
yeah, I have octoprint with a camera, so I keep an eye on it. It's usually the last thing I check before I go to sleep, and the first thing when I wake up, to make sure nothing's going terribly wrong
<aw->
same with octoprint/camera, but i still don't think it's enough
<aw->
hahaha
<Nistur>
the absolute worst case is, it starts a fire. The chances of that are near zero, but it's a possibility. It's in my shed at the bottom of the garden though, so if that _did_ happen, I'd lose tools and project stuff, but no risk to life or anything
<Nistur>
more likely, but less fatal failure cases are pretty much failed prints, which I can easily recover from
<aw->
yeah same here, it's not in my house but i'd lose all my computers and electronics parts and tools ahahaha
<Nistur>
I've killed a cheap hotend, but parts are easy easy to replace, so...
<aw->
right
<Nistur>
there is, of course, a risk with leaving it unattended, but I'm ok with tha
<Nistur>
that
<aw->
lucky, i'm too paranoid haha
<aw->
so what's the status of the penti now?
<aw->
are you going to print more?
<aw->
make more tweaks? release it on thingiverse?
<Nistur>
anyway, the keyboard. I have been playing around with it a bit. I originally got cherry mx red switches (or, well, clones) because I intended to make it as quiet as possible, as I was going to use it with a sleeping MiniNisturette next to me... I've procrastinated too long, and that's not really a requirement... I have blues in my daily driver, and the reds just feel super spongy... plus I can't find the
<Nistur>
bag of my spares... so I just ordered some blues. I'll wire everything up when I get them delivered
<Nistur>
I still have some minor tweaks to do on the base, so that it's printable. Right now there are some issues with how I designed it
<Nistur>
but once it's done, I'll probably stick it on thingiverse, yeah
<aw->
i literally just got a kb with cherry mx reds, indeed very spongy i kinda like it
<aw->
my other kb has cherry mx browns and they're pretty loud
<aw->
can't imagine blues
<Nistur>
I don't mind loud
<Nistur>
for one thing, I'm working from home, but even when I wasn't, my colleagues got used to them very quickly and didn't complain
<Nistur>
M_ is mode (ie M_D is digit) and K_ is key... looks like for some reason I started counting at 1
<Nistur>
looks like... shift punct and digit are all done, altgr is not because most of those characters are not in a US keymap which makes it difficult to type as it's using USB HID
<Nistur>
and I've only done F1-F12 in the funct layer
<Nistur>
I may see what I can do with those at some point
<Regenaxer>

prods ebay seller to send his keyswitches faster
<Nistur>
I just checked, estimated delivery 29th-1st.. which sucks... buuuuut there's a tracking number and yodel are delivering them and got them yesterday lunch time, and started moving today... so there's every chance they'll arrive earlier :D
<Nistur>
I hadn't actually tried the controller. I've got a test one which I had been using... for testing... but I just programmed the one in the print, and prodded at it with some random wires, it's working
