<teepee> how to fail creating a meme... https://twitter.com/overflow_meme/status/1527439335338958860 :)

<J2267> WP:  What is considered a meme may vary across different communities on the Internet and is subject to change over time. Traditionally, they were a concept or catchphrase, but the concept has since become broader and more multi-faceted, evolving to include more elaborate structures
<InPhase> teepee: I am left greatly confused.
<teepee> oh no
<teepee> ah, GSoC announcement today. I thought that's always on Mondays :)
<teepee> will be interesting to see how it goes this year with all the changes and potentially non-students
<teepee> hopefully they'll release some statistics later
<InPhase> In 4.5 hours it seems.
<teepee> announcement yeah, statistics is usually much later. I suppose they are quite busy now :)
<linext__> so i found a way to make the edges rounded on extruded SVG images
<linext__> importing a PNG as a surface that has gradients also worked, but it's not as clean
<J2267> linext__ you can use  function in(val=1)=val*25.4;

<J2267> linext__  not sure if you want that profile but for a round edge don't use pow() .. use https://bpa.st/XZ2A

<joseph_> teepee: Do you know how I can find out about accepted GSoC proposals? It is past 1800 utc and I don't see anything in my inbox. Does this indicate non-acceptance?

<teepee> joseph_: it might take a while to get all the mails out
<teepee> it should show that information on the dashboard too I think
<teepee> heh, looks like they got ddos'ed by everyone pressing f5 :)
<joseph_> teepee: Yes I just checked my dashboard and it is loading quite slowly. However eventually it got there and just lists "submitted" as my proposal status. I will traverse the website a bit more in case the information is on a different page
<InPhase> joseph_: On the mentor list the coordinator reported some other technical issues they were having, so don't be shocked by technical issues at the moment of sending out announcements. But they'll sort it out eventually. :)
<InPhase> There should be an email at announcement time.
<InPhase> This is on the one hand, giant Google sponsoring this. But on the other hand, this program appears to be run by a very small team within Google.
<teepee> it also happened that they ended up with slightly different hours than shown on the timeline :)
<teepee> yes, I suppose when they were with maybe 3 people at FOSDEM that may have been the whole team already
<InPhase> I estimate one coordinator, one technical person, and one HR person.
<teepee> which makes the result even more impressive
<InPhase> Indeed. Quite a lot of impressive work comes out of this program as a result.
<InPhase> And I suspect this is less than 50% of the full time annual work for those three people.
<InPhase> But that structure is just my guess from looking at what they do and how they seem to do it.

<teepee> now I do wonder if they have the app running on one of the team members laptops ;-)
<InPhase> I would imagine Google has a server room somewhere.
<teepee> looking minutes at the dashboard loading bar, I'm not so sure about that

<Scopeuk> Front end built by internet titan, backend Access database running on a 286 in a cupboard
<teepee> looks like the emails are starting to appear in peoples mailboxes :)
<teepee> seems to be angular, no surprises there: ng-version="12.2.0"
<teepee> 1210 contributors
<teepee> and with https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/programs/2022/projects showing up now, I guess we can congratulate joseph_ :)
<InPhase> teepee: I am not yet listed on the project page it seems. Sean said he added it, but they must have a lag on processing that. Databases are hard I guess. :)
<teepee> InPhase: yeah, there's 2 sections "want to mentor" and "assigned mentors", looks like they show the wrong one

<J2267> linext__ no you would have real rounded edges not these deformed ones which look more like a bevel
<J2267> but as long you are happy  and got what you want - everything is fine
<linext__> i appreciate the alternative
<linext__> if r=1 instead of r=2 it's closer to what i made
<linext__> i'm not as good at trigonometry
<InPhase> J2267: An alternative structure: https://bpa.st/FQBQ
<InPhase> J2267: Zoom in to compare the subtle differences in the layers.
<InPhase> Oh, I probably should have added an overlap there.
<InPhase> Also I bet I can simplify this.
