phryk: Was the original wooden?
<phryk>
yes, it's an openly available plan.
<InPhase>
phryk: There have been projects posted online that I've seen before about printed speaker enclosures. Good sound quality tends to require shape modifications when switching the material to printed plastic, because of the different vibrational characteristics.
<phryk>
I have 0 intention of printing this…
<InPhase>
Ok.
<InPhase>
What's the model for then?
<phryk>
visualization and standardized documentation. in the long run, maybe/hopefully automated manufacturing.

peepsalot linked to "Smooth n' Curvy Star Knob (Customizable) by thehans" on thingiverse => 3 IRC mentions
<linext>
that's nice
<linext>
i bought a used self-propelled lawn mower and it didn't come with these handles
<linext>
instead they use acorn nuts, which are easy to loose and require a wrench to take off
<peepsalot>
for the folding handle?
<linext>
yes
<peepsalot>
ah, well that's my design. let me know if you end up using it or have any feedback. it is one of my most popular and one I'm most proud of.
<linext>
i like that it's self supporting
<linext>
my design is so chunky because i didn't want to use removable supports
<peepsalot>
i spent a ridiculous amount of time on it back when I first wrote it
<peepsalot>
yeah, i tried to make it printable with little to no supports in most cases

<peepsalot>
in fact I think that design was what prompted me to submit my first PR. adding angle to rotate_extrude
rvt_ has joined #openscad
<J2285>
that was when the problem with the fragment alignment started
<linext>
peepsalot, not sure you want to work on it any longer, but an option could be added for multiple nuts
<linext>
my design has 1 lock nut, and 2 regular m8 nuts
<linext>
i suppose i could add it myself
<peepsalot>
J2285: no, rotate_extrude was always aligned wrong, I had to add a case to keep it backward compatible when angle is not used
<J2285>
i will never understand why issues are kept alive for backward compatibility
<J2285>
the consequence ist "can never be fixed"
<teepee>
linext: so do we write a letter to printables? :)
<linext>
i used their contact form
<linext>
it would be great if the community could build it together
<teepee>
there's now even the option with WASM which would be much lighter on their infrastructure
<linext>
i've found that certain operations are faster using pymesh
