<InPhase> phryk: Was the original wooden?
<phryk> yes, it's an openly available plan.
<InPhase> phryk: There have been projects posted online that I've seen before about printed speaker enclosures. Good sound quality tends to require shape modifications when switching the material to printed plastic, because of the different vibrational characteristics.
<phryk> I have 0 intention of printing this…
<InPhase> Ok.
<InPhase> What's the model for then?
<phryk> visualization and standardized documentation. in the long run, maybe/hopefully automated manufacturing.

<forrcaho> hey, just wanted to let you know there's a cert issue with files.openscad.org . Chrome is telling me NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
<teepee> oh :(
<teepee> forrcaho: thanks for the headsup
<teepee> actually, I'm seeing a certificate valid till Thu, 21 Jul 2022 03:50:51 GMT

<teepee> meh
<J2285> did you fixed it? .. it wasn't sending me to https .. now it does and is "secure"
<teepee> nope, I did nothing, mostly because I can't :D
<teepee> that might be the "some clients handle cert chains wrong" issue again
<teepee> I have Version 100.0.4896.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) which seems happy too
<teepee> cert check does give some strange "root missing"
<J2285> yeah chrome just remembered that i switched to https
<J2285> firefox also uses http "not secure pop up" after i manually change it it works
<J2285> same with http://openscad.org/
<J2285> openscad.org ..
<teepee> only rating B due to support for old TLS versions, but otherwise this seems happy enough
<J2285> the question is why the http page is delivered not the https connection
<teepee> hm? there's no automatic redirect to https?
<J2285> TOR is using the https .. but firefox and chrome using the http
<teepee> no idea if that's for some reason, but otherwise, if people want to use http, why not
<teepee> install https anywhere :)
<J2285> yes sure http is ok but normally it would use https automatically
<teepee> maybe some browser setting? for me it gives http with the http-everywhere plugin disabled
<J2285> even if you go to google.com ?
<J2285> ok seems openscad.org never had the redirect to https Ü
<J2285> and the download files are https linked
<teepee> yep, over time we tried to convert all links to https where possible
<teepee> both "internal" and external

<linext> what's the best way to make the top part rounded? https://ibb.co/dMy2HBH

<J2285> linext use a library
<linext> na, i found a better way
<J2285> the problem is that you can not round edges in SCAD
<J2285> you can bevel them when extruding
<linext> i'm going to use that can smooth out the edge with a knife
<J2285> if you use rotate_extrude you can use a round profile
<linext> not bad
<J2285> bit more extended https://pasteboard.co/YeMuQjTn8gQ9.png
<J2285> linext or with adding a center https://bpa.st/TXZQ
<linext> it's a bit like a minkowski on a cylinder($fn=5)
<J2285> minkowski can be used .. it is just a bit slow
<J2285> but with less fragments https://pasteboard.co/DF5fvI4D15VT.png
ricekot has joined #openscad
<J2285> linext think that is close to your design
<linext> yes it is
<linext> here's the design i'm going with
<linext> two captive 8mm nuts and 1 captive 8mm locknut all the way on the end

<othx> peepsalot linked to "Smooth n' Curvy Star Knob (Customizable) by thehans" on thingiverse => 3 IRC mentions
<linext> that's nice
<linext> i bought a used self-propelled lawn mower and it didn't come with these handles
<linext> instead they use acorn nuts, which are easy to loose and require a wrench to take off
<peepsalot> for the folding handle?
<linext> yes
<peepsalot> ah, well that's my design. let me know if you end up using it or have any feedback. it is one of my most popular and one I'm most proud of.
<linext> i like that it's self supporting
<linext> my design is so chunky because i didn't want to use removable supports
<peepsalot> i spent a ridiculous amount of time on it back when I first wrote it
<peepsalot> yeah, i tried to make it printable with little to no supports in most cases
rvt_ has quit [Quit: rvt_]
<peepsalot> in fact I think that design was what prompted me to submit my first PR. adding angle to rotate_extrude
rvt_ has joined #openscad
<J2285> that was when the problem with the fragment alignment started
<linext> peepsalot, not sure you want to work on it any longer, but an option could be added for multiple nuts
<linext> my design has 1 lock nut, and 2 regular m8 nuts
<linext> i suppose i could add it myself
<peepsalot> J2285: no, rotate_extrude was always aligned wrong, I had to add a case to keep it backward compatible when angle is not used
<J2285> i will never understand why issues are kept alive for backward compatibility
<J2285> the consequence ist "can never be fixed"
<teepee> linext: so do we write a letter to printables? :)
<linext> i used their contact form
<linext> it would be great if the community could build it together
<teepee> there's now even the option with WASM which would be much lighter on their infrastructure
<linext> i've found that certain operations are faster using pymesh
<teepee> well, not anymore
<teepee> fast-csg is corefinement, basically what pymesh also uses
<linext> i ended up using pymesh to join two STLs together more quickly
<teepee> if it's using corefinement in pymesh, openscad should be pretty much same in speed (I would assume, would need testing of course)
