Hello, I am new to using openocd and I encountered an error I was hoping to get a second opinion. I am trying to flash a fpga using a raspberypi using the command sudo openocd -f file_name. When I run that command I get an error in the .cfg file that none of the Image loading commands are recognized. I was wondering if anyone might know what I forgot to do?

soundfox: hi
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: you need to use some pastebin to show file_name.
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: where did you get the command names from? You should be using the documentation that came with your binary for the reference.
<soundfox>
hello, I wrote file_name myself as I didn't want to send the the file. Also yes I am using the documentation for openocd v0.12 which is what is installed on my pi. The Image Loading functions are defined in the document
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: you should pastebin the file somewhere
<PaulFertser>
So that we all can see it.
<PaulFertser>
And OpenOCD output.

Oh I see thank you for the advice. I am also new to irc chat so I am not sure of the correct procedures. Also I took your advice and went back to the documentation and it seems I missed a step. I will continue working on it myself to see if I can make further progress and reach back out if I can't. Thank you for your help

soundfox: good luck! IRC is pretty simple, just stay on channel and use some pastebin for more than 2 lines of output.
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: and better provide all the relevant info right away, the config and commands used with OpenOCD output is of course relevant.
<soundfox>
Thanks I'll keep that in mind
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: for FPGAs it's often the easiest option to have your FPGA software generate an SVF file and play it back with OpenOCD "svf" command.
<soundfox>
Oh so you would recommend doing that over using a .bin file?
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: if the target FPGA is supported by one of the special pld drivers then probably not, it should be easier to use a ready made .bit or something.
<PaulFertser>
soundfox: you didn't even tell what part you have there.
