karlp: (ccache patche) CONFIG_ALL=y test results are not encouraging :/
<PaulFertser>
Instead of fixing it in the packaged software they decided to add a silly wrapper apparently. I'll be working a bit more on it.
<karlp>
It worked for me, for my set of packages at least :)
<karlp>
I was going to endorse your patch :)
<PaulFertser>
I wonder if it's supposed to be my responsibility to clean up all the bad packages if I'm offering it...
* karlp
shrugs.
<karlp>
I can try and clean again, and see if openocd 11 worked for me, which I thought it did, I have ccache enabled "always" traditionally,
* karlp
kicks off a build.

ffs, I forgot I'd pulled your remove ccache wrappers patch :)

<karlp>
ok, so. if 0.11 didn't build with ccache either, then I guess I can just say, "whatever, existing problem I'm not looking at, let's just merge 0.12" ?
<PaulFertser>
karlp: I think that would be fair :)
<karlp>
hrm, I guess it probably built with an older ccache in the past though presumably, as ccache wastn't detecting and skipping things maybe?
<karlp>
done and done.
<PaulFertser>
karlp: it was introduced in v4.0-3-g6a92b4cd3a67
<karlp>
some progress for the week then.
<PaulFertser>
So probably.
<PaulFertser>
karlp: thank you for caring!
<karlp>
thank you for doing the work :)

karlp: hm, so with libjaylink available OpenOCD automatically links to it and then is missing a dependency on it. Guess it's time to bump the Makefile to new REV that would just +libjaylink ? Do you want me to send such a "github pull request"?
Gurugupta has joined #openocd
<karlp>
wtf. that built for me.
<karlp>
did I have an ordering problem or something then?
<karlp>
oh, this is that old problem
<karlp>
dpeends on order
<karlp>
feck, +libjaylink will get that built, and first, so that will make oocd's configure always use external libjaylink then right?
<karlp>
where did you get the missing dep error?
<PaulFertser>
karlp: when packing of course. I'm now testing with CONFIG_ALL so libjaylink is available in the build system so it's getting picked by OpenOCD configure.
<PaulFertser>
Package openocd is missing dependencies for the following libraries:
<PaulFertser>
libjaylink.so.0
<PaulFertser>
That's all expected actually.
<karlp>
hrm. yeah, I just don't know why I didn't see it.
<PaulFertser>
Guess it's just the best to add a dep on libjaylink now.
<karlp>
so much for trying to do this carefully and correctly.
<PaulFertser>
karlp: guess openocd was build first, then libjaylink.
<karlp>
guess os.
<karlp>
I would have seen it next build
<PaulFertser>
Guess it's just the best to add a dep on libjaylink now.
<PaulFertser>
You want me to send it or you'll do it yourself?
<karlp>
doing it now, I can ut your reported-by if you want.
<PaulFertser>
Up to you, whatever's easier for you.
<karlp>
just rebuilding this one more time here now, without ccache then I'll push that when I'm back form lunch
<karlp>
thanks for reporting.
<PaulFertser>
Thank you for maintaining :)
<Gurugupta>
Long time user of OpenOCD for bare metal and know my way around Linux kernel, but never used the two combined. Any suggestions where to start? I'd be open to HW suggestions as well as howto's. CPU board with/without j-Tag built doesn't matter as I have a segger/J-link but ofc getting started quick is wort something. IOW if the suggestion is tightly
<Gurugupta>
coupled with some HW it's still welcome. The target is not what I'm going to use later, I'm just looking for a way to get my feet wet with OpenOCD for Linux kernel.
