I want to work for GSOC2020 in the side of ANN .I hope I would be able to contribute. :)
< kartikdutt18Gitt> Hi @gauthampkrishnan, take a look at, https://www.mlpack.org/community.html and http://www.mlpack.org/gsoc.html
< PranavReddyP16Gi> Hey guys I was looking through the gsoc idea list and I was wondering, What
< PranavReddyP16Gi> Is the status of Essential Deep Learning Modules*
< PranavReddyP16Gi> I see a few PR's are open regarding that
< GauthamPKrishnan> Hi @kartikdutt18 ok will check.

< JoelJosephGitter> 1. what is the connection between the "executables" in build/bin and the ".cpp" files in include/mlpack/methods ?
< JoelJosephGitter> and for eg. how do i make a custom executable of my own?
< JoelJosephGitter> is this a cmake thing?
< GauthamPKrishnan> Yes inorder to make a custom executable you need .cpp files
< GauthamPKrishnan> You can make your own executable using cmake
< JoelJosephGitter> in which file is the info related to the 1.name of the executable, 2.parameters,3.result of "--help" all written down?

< kartikdutt18Gitt> Hi @saraansh1999, take a look at, https://www.mlpack.org/community.html and http://www.mlpack.org/gsoc.html
< SaraanshTandonGi> So which of the chat channels are active form GSOC discussions
< SaraanshTandonGi> ?
< kartikdutt18Gitt> You discuss it here or mlpack also has a mailing list. It's mentioned in the links above.
< SaraanshTandonGi> ok, thanks @kartikdutt18
< SaraanshTandonGi> So i am basically intereseted in the following two projects:
< SaraanshTandonGi> Application of ANN Algorithms Implemented in mlpack
< SaraanshTandonGi> Essential Deep Learning Modules
ImQ009 has joined #mlpack
< SaraanshTandonGi> I am well versed with machine/deep learning and have also recently submitted a paper to IJCB 2020 which uses computer vision in biometrics. I use C++ regularly but not at development level. Although I am proficient in python and Pytorch.
< SaraanshTandonGi> I was wondering how hard is it to get to know the C++ concepts mentioned in http://www.mlpack.org/gsoc.html and if it is possible to learn them and participate this year.
< SaraanshTandonGi> Interested in
< SaraanshTandonGi> Implementation and Adaptation of Pytorch Modules
< SaraanshTandonGi> too.

< prakhar_> Hello everyone! I am Prakhar Srivastava, I am interested in working for an idea (as mentioned on https://github.com/mlpack/mlpack/wiki/SummerOfCodeIdeas) for this year’s Google Summer of Code
< prakhar_> I was thinking of implementing “Essential Deep Learning Modules”
< zoq> prakhar_: Hello there, https://www.mlpack.org/gsoc.html might be helpful :)
< prakhar_> Thank you, zoq
< zoq> SaraanshTandon: Some of concepts are more complex than others, but I think if you go through some tutorials you get the idea.

< Param-29Gitter[m> Are there any specific profiling tools or anything else which would help me in finding bottlenecks of algorithms?

< PrinceGuptaGitte> Which algorithms' speed are you profiling
< jeffin143[m]> Zoq : are you using valgrind ?? In mac
< jeffin143[m]> Seems that it is not supporting mac os Catalina , I have update without knowing that
< jeffin143[m]> Unfortunately now have to setup a vm or docker container for mlpack
< rcurtin> ok, switched DNS records for today's downtime of mlpack.org
< rcurtin> sorry in advance for degraded website service, etc.
< rcurtin> but it should be lver relatively quickly... I hope :)

< Param-29Gitter[m> @prince776 Nothing specific in mind as of now.. If there is any which you want me to let me know :)
< Param-29Gitter[m> @rcurtin I have updated the results by compiling gini_gain to generate SIMD instructions .#2169 please have a look at it :)
< rcurtin> PranavReddyP16Gi: have you had a chance to look into the reviews of #2187 (Remove STB related code)? I'd like to get this one handled before the next release of mlpack, so for me it's a bit of a high priority
< rcurtin> I'm happy to help out, just let me know
< kartikdutt18Gitt> @rcurtin, could you also help me out with #2221 if you get the chance.I will try to resolve it as soon as I can.
< rcurtin> I doubt that I'll have the time today
< rcurtin> I do think that I will be putting some time into fixing the copy issues for the convolution layers, maybe if I manage to open a PR for that it can be helpful
< kartikdutt18Gitt> Thank you. I will keep working on it incase I figure something out that works.
< zoq> jeffin143: Haven't used valgrind on macOS, I use debian for valgrind.

< metahost> anxious_ryan, zoq: the size for the mlpack_test executable on the ideas list looks to be very small, I compiled with and without the debug symbols flag turned on and ended up with an executable of size 348MB on MacOS!!
