_florent_: I think you were right about the sata connector on the stlv7325[-v2]: according to this (https://imgur.com/a/0MylpuL) the board connetor is wired the same as a hard drive (device) instead of being wired as a *host*; from the stlv schematics: (https://imgur.com/a/6G8SA1R)
<somlo>
so for "host" mode pins 2,3 should be tx, and 5,6 should be rx
<somlo>
what I need now is a "cross-over" sata cable, connecting (2,3) <-> (5,6) and (5,6) <-> (2,3)
<somlo>
I think with a cable like that we might just be able to use the native sata ports on the stlv7325 (both original and v2)
<somlo>
I'll let the designer know for if/when there's ever a -v3 of the board :D
<somlo>
I'll know for sure in about a week when the adapter gets delivered :)

somlo: I don't think the designer tested with a SATA core, maybe with the IBERT core from Xilinx and a loopback but the issue would not be seen.
<_florent_>
somlo: that's good if this can be workaround with a cheap adapter
