[slack] <CvH> if your hardware (HDMI2.0) can't do 4k 50Hz it won't work, you should set the Kodi gui to FHD - there is zero benefit in running the Gui at 4k besides much worse performance
<LEBot>
[slack] <CvH> when playing a 4k file the output is switched to 4k regardless of the kodi gui display resolution
<narf>
thats something i didnt think of
<narf>
version of my hdmi cable
<LEBot>
[slack] <CvH> no idea what hw we are speaking about
<LEBot>
[slack] <CvH> hdmi cable may be a problem too, also check if allhdmi ports at your tv support hdmi2.0, several tvs just support it at one or 2 connectors

<shibboleth>
some breakage when upgrading a 9.2.8 rpi2 with composite video out to 10.0.2 even
<shibboleth>
some error/warning during the upgrade step about config.txt being incompatible, rebooted, blank screen
<shibboleth>
replaced config.txt with the new version, reboot, another blank screen. updated config.txt/distroconfig.txt with enable_tvout=1 and dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-512,composite=1
<shibboleth>
now i get the LE logo during boot, never reaches kodi. also "dependency failed for broadcom sdio firmware update for bcm43430a1
<shibboleth>
kodi seems to be running according to ps, but it doesn't fire up the web interface
<LEBot>
[slack] <CvH> try a fresh install, the whole video driver stack is completly new so you have likely somewhere legacy settings that do not work anymore

also noticed that config.txt has changed re gpu_mem.
<shibboleth>
i've read that the rpi4 autoallocates memory, but for rpi2 also=
<shibboleth>
[ 13.281407] vc4-drm soc:gpu: [drm] Cannot find any crtc or sizes
<shibboleth>
ah, the trick was video=Composite-1:720x576@50ie in cmdline.txt

<shibboleth>
ok, so if anyone else encounters issue re analog video/audio on rpi2, config.txt: dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-512,composite=1 dtoverlay=pisound , cmdline.txt: video=Composite-1:720x576@50ie
<shibboleth>
oh, and dtparam=audio=on in config.txt
<oblikoamorale>
document this on the forum/wiki maybe, not much point in posting on volatile irc...

I have a question: Is there any way to play mpeg2/dvd iso's on the rpi4, libreelec, or should i just give up and keep using my rpi2?
<LEBot>
[slack] <CvH> Should just work, at least with software decode

detlev, the hardware decoder that you will need a licence key for to unlock is optional

colo: pi4 doesn't support hw decode for mpeg2, and won't use the license.
