<ar> just as a small heads up: it looks like discord wants to remove the possibility of having bots that act as message relays to other protocols: https://gist.github.com/Rapptz/4a2f62751b9600a31a0d3c78100287f1
<d1b2> <Qyriad> Discord is making bots that are in more than 100 servers require a certain verification for access message content — that doesn't apply for the bots that bridge these IRC and Discord channels, and Discord has basically said that bots that need message content to function for reasons other than commands (like logging bots or similar) are very likely to get approved

<cyborg_ar> dealbreaker for discord imo is the outright hostility to any kind of third party client

<d1b2> <esden> They don’t show any hostility from what I know. They do have it in their terms and conditions but don’t act upon it. There are even communities making plug-in managers for custom clients. So third party discord clients is a thriving community from what I have seen so far…
<d1b2> <esden> Take a look at BetterDiscord for example 🙂
<d1b2> <TiltMeSenpai> they've definitely stated that BetterDiscord is against ToS, even though they don't spend resources on banning users of it

<Shiz> it's not really a thriving community, there's like *one* other from-scratch alternative client that's not modifications of the desktop client
<Shiz> and users are never use if they'll get banned for using it
<Shiz> nor do they document the protocol stuff for clients -- I'd call it pretty hostile
<Shiz> and yeah, while they'll likely approve requests for the message content intent, they are hugely backlogged on it also, from the looks of it, require those bot authors to give them their government-issued ID

<d1b2> <waitee> just a matter of time tbh. They're a for profit company and to be profitable, they feel like they need to control the platform
