<brocellous> What's a soft reset?
<dnkl> brocellous: a reset that doesn't reset as much as a hard reset...
<brocellous> fair
<dnkl> there's been quite a lot of guess work of what should be part of a soft vs. hard reset
<brocellous> reset and tput reset == hard reset in this case, right?

<brocellous> from the manpage seems like `tput reset` is basically stty sane + output some init or reset strings?
<brocellous> idk why there are 4 strings though
<dnkl> me neither. we only define rs1, and it's set to a hard reset
<brocellous> infocmp foot has something for rs2 on my machine though?
<brocellous> I just use the terminfo from ncurses

<brocellous> Looks like this is the soft reset
<dnkl> yeah, that's a soft reset, and disable insert mode, for some reason
<dnkl> (it's usually disabled anyway)
<brocellous> Anyway I do have a question, if I can figure out how to ask it. Is it possible for me to sorta "reset" the scroll, so that when typing new input I don't get automatically scrolled down, if I was scrolled up?
<brocellous> The situation is, I have a mostly clear terminal with shell prompt at the top left, then I press keybind for prompt-prev to scroll up once to the previous prompt
<brocellous> if I type any new input at the point, it scrolls automatically such that the prompt made visible by prompt-prev is no longer visible
<brocellous> I'm wondering if there is anything I can do between prompt-prev and my next input, that will prevent foot from automatically scrolling it out of sight while I'm typing.
<dnkl> that depends on what the shell is doing, exactly
<dnkl> disabling auto-wrap might work. But I suspect it'll cause other, worse, issues
