World's first high-performance RISC-V open source SBC——VisionFive 2 world premiere
<
rwmjones>
is this based on a starfive design?
<
davidlt[m]>
Yes, that's their own.
<
davidlt[m]>
BTW, our own Fu Wei will be doing a talk too!
<
rwmjones>
oh so he is
<
davidlt[m]>
Oh yeah, I have a reminder set.
<
rwmjones>
or at least, one room
<
rwmjones>
I don't think our talk on UKL is in a room that has livestreaming
<
davidlt[m]>
rwmjones: with my board, I don't get above 45C, ambient 30C so far (checking this day constantly)
<
rwmjones>
nufive is currently +56.2
<
rwmjones>
give me a sec, I'll go and get the ambient temp there ...
<
davidlt[m]>
This is a board with a worse heatsink (pre-prod), but with 120mm Noctua fan flowing from the side
<
davidlt[m]>
I am pushing nufive with Python 3.11 RC1 build (that will take multiple hours)
<
davidlt[m]>
I think it's already going for like 6-7 hours
<
davidlt[m]>
That's probably the largest build I sent to it after the heat went away.
<
rwmjones>
so how did you get the case fan to run? is that enabled in new uboot now?
<
davidlt[m]>
I shouldn't go above 31-33C today (but humidity is making it annoying)
<
rwmjones>
I have a case fan but it's not running unless I plug it into the cpu fan header
<
davidlt[m]>
Yes, it's working.
<
davidlt[m]>
But remember that's all software enabled (if there is software issue, it might not spin [most likely all will be good])
<
rwmjones>
ok let me sort that out now
<
davidlt[m]>
I also have Y splitters and MOLEX to 3-pin on the PSU dongles just in case I need them
<
davidlt[m]>
OK, I am AFK to get some food
<
rwmjones>
ok both boxes are up again, and both have case + CPU fans running (and are noisy)

So hot
<
davidlt[m]>
Going outside was a mistake :)
<
davidlt[m]>
rwmjones: do you run any 2.5/5/10G networking at home?
<
rwmjones>
I actually run effectively 100 Mbps because of all the RF noise
<
davidlt[m]>
Hmm...
<
rwmjones>
& yes I need to install fibre runs, but that's a huge hassle
<
davidlt[m]>
I have an option (finally) to get 2G fiber optic line
<
rwmjones>
the fibre to my house is quite a bit faster than my internal network
<
rwmjones>
so depending on which AP you connect to you get different internet speeds :-(
<
davidlt[m]>
The problem is 1G is easy and it's fanless
<
davidlt[m]>
Going to 2.5 or 2.5/5/10 (traditional Ethernet or SFP/SFP+) might be noisy
<
davidlt[m]>
There are no large enough switch with just a couple of Multi-Gig (that's how 2.5/5/10 is called), so it has to be 10G
<
davidlt[m]>
And it's not something cheap :/

rwmjones: is nufive okay?
<
rwmjones>
CPU Temp: +46.2°C (low = +0.0°C, high = +85.0°C)
<
rwmjones>
let me check kojid actually
<
rwmjones>
looks fine - nufive seems to be building python or a python-related package
<
rwmjones>
nujive is doing some build but I'm not sure what exactly
<
davidlt[m]>
yeah, it's building Python
<
davidlt[m]>
Just wanted to make sure all is OK :)
<
rwmjones>
it all seems fine, let's let it go for a bit
<
davidlt[m]>
nujive is cooking SRPM
