<b100s> hi2all; I don't remember if I asked this question already. FCOS by default is using cgroups v2. At the same time we know that one of it's main target is to be OS for k8s cluster. However k8s doesn't support cgroups v2 until 1.25, which is latest as of now. Why FCOS has cgroup v2 as default?

<lucab> b100s: it is marked as GA only now in 1.25, but most of the logic was already done in 1.22. All the low-level components were ready for v2 last year, and Fedora itself switched to it even before. v1 just has too many small messy bits that we are happy to leave behind us :)
<lucab> b100s: if you are looking for specific v2 items to be excited about, I'm personally happy with proper nesting/delegation and the PSI metrics
jpn has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<b100s> Got it. Just wonder because we do migrate to FCOS from Core OS and our k8s is not 1.25 yet. So we have to use cgroup v1 and were surprised a bit that FCOS already on cgroup v2 by default.
mnguyen has joined #fedora-coreos
<b100s> Btw if we do switch to cgroup v1 there is still cgroup v2 mount to /sys/fs/cgroups/unified . Why this mount is needed?
<b100s> Yes, we do follow the doc. Let me check the Hybrid mode, never heard about it.
<b100s> Got it. Why Hybrid mode was chosen? Any specific part of FCOS needs cgroup v2 ?
<lucab> b100s: it's the default that systemd (and thus FCOS) was using before fully switching to unified / v2
<b100s> Got it. Thank you.

<kdkmm> Home experimenter / non-production -> I want to set up a server with as-close-to-FDE-as-I-can-get without Tang and where the chosen threat model is physical theft. TPM2 is not helpful for this, so I went with encrypting /var and using keyfile->inline and the filesystem configured with with_mount_unit. I was surprised that on boot, no decryption key
<kdkmm> was requested, and on login, /var was accessible. Is there a way to force FCOS to request a manually entered decryption key rather than storing it?
<kdkmm> I am aware that this would breaks automatic reboots, so I can understand if non-automated decryption is unsupported.

<kdkmm> For my above question, I found that the key material is stored in /etc/luks/<name> , and removing that file is sufficient to prompt for the key on boot.
