<frinnst> look what I found, the old crux.nu server when it was brand new(oldstock): https://planet-express.se/old-crux.nu.jpg
<frinnst> 20161101 - hardware from like 2008-2009 ?
<frinnst> ram and cpu were free from my old job
<leah2> dual core!

<SiFuh> jaeger: Sometimes shocking. Like when I see my old desktop and how bad colour choices were made back in the day.
jason123onirc has quit [Quit: ZNC 1.8.2+deb3.1+deb12u1 - https://znc.in]
<SiFuh> jaeger: I had one screen that didn't display the colours correctly. I was very proud of it but everyone was saying how ugly and lairy it was. When I eventually got a new screen and saw it, I almost vomited.
<SiFuh> proud of it/proud of my desktop*

<jaeger> yeah, mine are a lot different now than in the past

<frinnst> I rsynced files from one disk to another the other week. when a copy of my dads last phone's pictures were printed across my term it made me a bit sad
<frinnst> still, enjoyed looking through them again
<frinnst> wow I was chonky ~5 years ago
<SiFuh> frinnst: Not sure if I could that if that ever happened to me. I have enough loss in my life. Brain won't sleep if I start thinking about it.
<frinnst> I like a good cry
<SiFuh> I get enough of them at random times a month. Never found out what triggered the thoughts.
<frinnst> <3
<frinnst> cool, sd card from my old motorola non-smart-phone
<SiFuh> I transferred everything of mine to LTO5 cartridges, and secondary on hard disks and third copies on Solid State drives.
<frinnst> I started to go through random sd cards and usb sticks today for some reason
<frinnst> mostly boring stuff but a few gems
<SiFuh> Some good memory triggers right though?
<frinnst> yeah
<SiFuh> Before I moved to Malaysia. I raided all old phones, all CD's and DVD's all old hard drives and cassettes (Pre-LTO). Started rescuing data and organizing it. 'A blast from the past' so to say.
<SiFuh> And many tears as well.
<frinnst> usb sticks seem to be mostly crux installation sticks or fat32 for firmware/bios flashing
<frinnst> seem to have used a new stick each time or something :D
<SiFuh> Bought a military weather proof case. Cut out the foam. Inserted two 5TB hard disks and a heap of LTO5 cartidges (All encrypted) Then made another 2 5TB drives which I took with me and transfered to 2 8TB solid state drives.
<SiFuh> The case is in Australia and locked.
<frinnst> [sdi] 512000 512-byte logical blocks: (262 MB/250 MiB) <- ooh this was my goto stick for crux install for a long time. then we got bloated :D
<SiFuh> Heh, I still carry my first USB stick with me. I will take a photo
<SiFuh> frinnst: https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/rxvt3e.jpg I bought in China and it still is going strong to this day.
<frinnst> :D
<SiFuh> I use it for Visa, passport, job applications and Passport Photos.
<SiFuh> I reckon I bought it around 2004
<frinnst> yeah same here I think
<SiFuh> Mine is 256MB
<SiFuh> Oh wow, that's ugly
<SiFuh> Still works though?
<frinnst> yep as far as I know. some sandisks and kingstons threw sector errors but not my tiny pretec :)
<SiFuh> Yeah, my Sandisks all die so early.
<SiFuh> We bought a stack last year and only 2 are alive out of 6.
<SiFuh> Some died only a few weeks of use
<SiFuh> I also bought 6 Kingston and also only 2 are alive.
<SiFuh> I can blame the wife for 2 because she doesn't pull out any USBs straight. Always wiggles that shit and makes me mad as hell. The rest seem due to overheating.

<jaeger> That could be a bad habit to get into, heh... does she break phone/laptop chargers?
<SiFuh> jaeger: Yes and USB ports too
<jaeger> ouch
<SiFuh> When I use to repair laptops, I could always tell if it was a woman's laptop. USB ports were so loose.
<SiFuh> Or soyboy weak ass men ;-) hahaha
<jaeger> I've broken one or two over many years but never regularly
<SiFuh> I've never.
<jaeger> I ran into one with my foot once, there was no saving that
<jaeger> At least the port was fine
<SiFuh> My brother bought a barand new SATA driver. This was back when they started to become a thing. I saw him snap the socket on the drive. Had to super glue it back together. That was my teacher.
<SiFuh> jaeger: Hah. My Colombian friend got drunk and landed on his back whilst wearing his backpack with laptop inside. He was crying like a cat and broke the sound card port.
<jaeger> oops, heh
<SiFuh> He and I don't understand why he resorts to becoming a species of animal when he drunk. Last time he was a wolf.
<SiFuh> My Tamil friend always slides the notebook into the bag and never unplugs anything. I told him not to do this but he still does.
<SiFuh> That's a big NO NO. Especially when the USB hard drive is still plugged in.
<jaeger> Definitely... just asking for trouble
<SiFuh> jaeger: Yep and they both have brand new laptops.
<jaeger> speaking of laptops, I think it's both funny and cool that the maker of my laptop also makes electric supercars
<jaeger> (xiaomi)
<SiFuh> Like Hitachi makes refrigerators and hard drives and phones? Or Fujitsu makes laptops, escalators and elevators?
<SiFuh> We even have Misubishi elevators here.
<SiFuh> farkuhar and I used one in the mall at Penang.
<SiFuh> Escalator*
<jaeger> Panasonic also makes everything
<jaeger> Saw a panasonic bicycle once
<SiFuh> Lots of Panasonic in my house because it is quite good.
<frinnst> Panasonic made a lot of MTBs in the 90s
<SiFuh> And phones
<frinnst> I think they were rebranded Bridgestones
<SiFuh> Hmm didn't know that.
<frinnst> But yeah, Mitsubishi. The "Hold my beer" of the "make everything crowd"
<SiFuh> Japan's Bridgestone halts Olympics sponsorship, joining Toyota, Panasonic
<frinnst> yeah Japan doesnt run Bridgestone track bikes anymore
_0bitcount has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<SiFuh> 108,000 British pounds for changing from right to left? BMX can do that at no extra cost.
<frinnst> track cycling is awesome
<frinnst> sooo fun to watch once you get into it
<frinnst> madison racing is just fucking stupid and 100% chaos
<SiFuh> I like the Down Hill Challenge. Like they do in Medelin Colombia.
<frinnst> hardline is quite cool but I prefer xco. Cycling should be suffering :D
<SiFuh> I need some new discs for the angle grider and some more gloves. I might take the BMX out tomorrow.

<frinnst> nice one, trainer as well :D
<SiFuh> frinnst: Funny. Thats for mountain and road bike riders to use during the lockdown. I modified it for the BMX so I can ride during the monsoon rains.
<SiFuh> Heh, I could never see myself on anything other than a BMX
<frinnst> yeah it's indoor season here as well: https://www.strava.com/athletes/43323357
<frinnst> Zwift is addictive
<SiFuh> frinnst: We actually have 4 monsoon seasons a year but most people think there is only one and some think there are two. But the truth is there are 4
<frinnst> how are they spread out?
<SiFuh> South East, South West, North East and North West. They overlap but over the year certain parts of each cross into other areas.
<SiFuh> So a direct monsoon would arrive here every 6 months. But parts of the other two cross over for about a month the other half of the year.
<SiFuh> We are now in Monsoon again. So during the day, I can usually go out. But by evening it hits so I need to race home. I keep the BMX out of the rain
<frinnst> scandinavia is pretty boring, weather wise
<SiFuh> frinnst: I don't like having mud and water on my bike like yours :-P
<frinnst> that's how you know you've used it properly! :D
<SiFuh> That's for my 4x4 when I go off-road :-P
<frinnst> I used to love riding in the mud when I was young. these days i get too tense. shit's unpredictable
<SiFuh> frinnst: Try your mountain bike here then. You will get about 2 feet and get glued to the ground. The mud will swallow you.
<frinnst> yes well I mean swedish mud - its bland like the rest of the weather :)
<SiFuh> frinnst: I carry a high pressure portable spray for my truck that I can duck a hose in the river to wash the truck. If not, you couldn't even open the doors or windows.
<frinnst> I've had that, but with snow
<SiFuh> You end up with a clay lump that somehow has a truck underneath it.
<frinnst> lol
<SiFuh> The car wash doesn't 'lol' when I bring it in :-P
<SiFuh> I am banned from washing the truck at home so carwash it is.
<SiFuh> frinnst: But interestingly, there is a bike culture starting to appear here.
<SiFuh> You should bring it here and try some of the tracks. You'd need camping equipment though. Some are over 30 K long in the jungles.
<SiFuh> And there are hundreds of waterfalls, mountains and campsites.
<SiFuh> The weather is stinking hot and humid and if you are unlucky (unlike me) mosquitoes will devour you.
<SiFuh> My wife gets hammered by the mosquitoes and I don't get a single bite. I always say they can't fly after they drink my blood (alcohol) but actually they don't touch me.
<SiFuh> frinnst: This zwift wants you to ride in the ocean?
<SiFuh> frinnst: By the way, I sometimes ride the BMX on the treadmill. It just fits perfectly.
