<jaeger>
I don't see any easy/straightforward solution for the issue with ventoy... after ventoy boots the ISO does not show up anywhere as a block or optical device

my first thought was "who's ventoy?"
<joacim>
ddg to the rescue
<jaeger>
There was some discussion in here about it recently with regards to the crux iso
<ukky>
jaeger: do you need help in figuring what is the issue?
<jaeger>
I just mentioned what it is above :)
<ukky>
how can I see what happens there? should I open that web page and provide link to crux iso? Will I see boot log?
<jaeger>
You can see it by booting the crux iso with ventoy. It will boot but after the boot completes, the ISO media is not accessible, only what was loaded into the rootfs during boot.
<joacim>
wonder if windows boots properly through that. windows 10/11 often creates issues for me when i create the usb drive from linux or macos
<joacim>
(with dd)
<joacim>
typically have to build a fat32 file system, copy over files, but only after i split the files that are larger than 4GB
<joacim>
if i dont, some drivers dont load, and the installer lacks support for some typical devices
<jaeger>
yuck
<ukky>
jaeger: I will test ventoy with crux iso.
<jaeger>
ok
<jaeger>
The boot looks ok until you get to the prompt, then when you try to run setup, it won't work
<jaeger>
Because the initramfs normally finds the ISO media and sets that up for you... it'
<jaeger>
it'll search optical and block devices and check them for a specific file
<ukky>
okay
<jaeger>
But after ventoy boots, there's no optical or block device corresponding to the ISO image
<ukky>
I need to recompile my kenrel first. exFAT is not enabled.
<ukky>
did you try it on UEFI, or Legacy BIOS?
<jaeger>
only UEFI so far
<ukky>
okay, I need to go for a few hours. Will test it around 8:00 PM EDT
<jaeger>
take care
<ukky>
I will test it on Legacy BIOS first. That might be another test point
