slightly odd update on the fans... the noctua fan also buzzes... when connected to that fan header... but not on another header, and other fans (corsair) don't seem to buzz on the same header
<jaeger>
I've switched to a pair of Corsair SP120 fans as they seem to work just fine with this motherboard's headers, no noise.
<jaeger>
Sometimes computers be weird.
<ukky>
Do you mean 4-pin power/control header?
<jaeger>
Yeah. I have several of them on the board, though only the noctua fan supports PWM (4-pin), the rest are 3-pin
<jaeger>
All headers on the board are PWM, for clarification, but only one of the fans I've tested
<jaeger>
Tweaking the fan curve for the PWM fan changes the speed/pitch of the buzz but doesn't remove it
<ukky>
Maybe PWM ratio is too high. Noctua has 'reducer', but I'm not sure it is compatible with PWM. 'Reducer' is just an embedded resistor.
<jaeger>
I could dig it out and find out but for now I'm just using the 2 corsair fans. They're pretty solid anyway and not poop-colored. :)
<ukky>
I have Thermaltake Fan Control board to control fan speed. Only CPU fans are directly connected to MB. All others go to splitter, and splitter is attached to Fan Control.
<jaeger>
I've used those in the past but don't have one in this system
<ukky>
Noctua color doesn't bother me, for as long as they run quiet. My fans are running at 700 RPM, it's silent enough to be next to the system 12-16 hours a day.
<jaeger>
It's not a deal breaker by any means but I slightly prefer black/gray fans if all other things are equal
<ukky>
Black/grey would be definitely nicer than brown. European companies have different opinion on color selection, I guess.
