<stenur>
But well, maybe you are right SiFuh. It is just that my "ears are full"
<stenur>
SiFuh: Joel Sing <jsing@cvs.openbsd.org>: Sat, 27 Aug 2022 03:16:29 -0600 (MDT): Add regress for QUIC. This exercises the libssl QUIC implementation and completes a TLS handshake using the SSL_QUIC_METHOD interface.
<stenur>
Was today even. Heck i had so much stuff in the box it appeared long ago.
<stenur>
(btw just three days ago OpenSSL had a commit "QUIC ACK Manager, Statistics Manager and Congestion Control API
<stenur>
", Hugo Landau, fa4e92a70a5f363fbbee192c0ecab697e3aa1248)
<stenur>
Big one
<stenur>
People i want to take xmessage from romster, as least as long as he is not here.
<stenur>
I see beerman has forwarded some ports of him in opts (like, finally, p5-uri 2nd.)
<stenur>
So i simply do it with xmessage in a few minutes.
<stenur>
(I track its git for quite some time. They now do automated test builds and have fixed some compiler warnings!!!!)
<stenur>
Oh wait! Already!!!
<stenur>
:-(
<stenur>
Already a month ago. I should update my gits more often.
<stenur>
Sigh

FS#1902 - kmod: enable --with-zstd --with-zlib --with-openssl would be nice. for example i am using arch linux kernel config and one of the options i disable is modules compression.
<SiFuh>
I like the idea as well
<SiFuh>
Since zstd zlib and openssl are already in core then why not?
<jue>
ivandi: using a kernel trimmed down to your needs would be a better idea than to use a distro kernel with hundreds of useless kernel modules ;)
<jue>
if you do that, you gain nothing by module compression
<SiFuh>
Yep!
<ivandi>
jue: well, i am too lazy to tweak kernel configs nowadays. there was a time when it was fun, but not any more.
<ivandi>
usually i merge the latest arch linux config and my customization http://sprunge.us/oHPaER
<jaeger>
beerman: no preference/objections from me, they're already in core
<SiFuh>
ivandi: what is the kernel size after compilation?
<ivandi>
-r-------- 1 root root 9718464 Aug 21 18:04 vmlinuz-5.19.3
<SiFuh>
2MB smaller than mine
<ivandi>
iirc it requires initramfs. everything is a module including ext4.ko
<SiFuh>
Mine doesn't but I noticed arch had more built in
<SiFuh>
ivandi: 394 m 1075 y for mine and arch has 5564 m and 2767 y
<ivandi>
it is 'everything and the kitchen sink' major distribution kernel
<SiFuh>
Yep, but CRUX didn't need all that.
<ivandi>
i never said crux needs it
<SiFuh>
Hahaha, I was meaning that is why I don't have the kitchen sink
<ivandi>
anyway, for me it is the easiest way to have the latest and greatest kernel. it takes more time to compile and installs tons of modules i will never need. compile time is irrelevant for me as it is a background job and the wasted space in /lib/modules costs very little. on the other hand i can use random hardware w/o constantly tweaking kernel configs.
<SiFuh>
Seems to be a lot of stuff you will never ever use though
<ivandi>
as a former slackware user i am used to install stuff i will never ever need :)
<SiFuh>
I was just thinking how you could probably walk into a Hospital and connect your CRUX laptop to the MRI machine
<SiFuh>
You have modules for Heart Rate Monitors, Humidity sensors, Inertial measurement units. Android fitness watch?
<ivandi>
never looked what exactly is installed, as long as everything i need is supported i am ok
<SiFuh>
Bet your PC/laptop doesn't even have 10% of the ports needed to conenct these devices. Like SAS for example.
<SiFuh>
ivandi: I agree. I also don't mind the swiss army knife of kernels either.
<ivandi>
bet even debian doesn't have packages for all the hardware support it ships in the kernel :)
<SiFuh>
:-P

jue: 'thing is that like that you could simply copy over some big one and reboot. kmod is not getting that much bigger, but that would work. Then strip down

otherwise the issue could be closed i think

I've had a crux laptop connected to an MRI once in the past :)
<SiFuh>
That's cool
farkuhar has joined #crux-devel
jue has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<beerman>
jaeger: okay, i guess we can leave that alone. jue is not a fan, after a little debate i came to the conclusion that we really don't need to link against all other libs
