I am making a can bus shield for pocket beagle, and I was thinking of powering the shield using the 3.3 out from the pocket. Does the pocketbeagle already has overcurrent protections or should add something like tvs diodes and resettable fuses?

the problem is that if the supply to the transceiver drops to a low voltage as a result of a protection circuit, then now you're effectingly short-circuiting the CAN_TX output of the processor, which is worse

(at least, that will probably happen, if the transceiver has clamping diodes on its I/O, which is typical)

its driver is limited to -40..+48 mA so overcurrent protection is kind of pointless, though it seems to have limited overvoltage protection on the bus side so it may benefit from some additional protection there
