<jduchniewicz> can we ban users like stano?
<jduchniewicz> obviously a spammer account
<jduchniewicz> zmatt:
<zmatt> uhh what?
<jduchniewicz> or maybe I misread
<jduchniewicz> on the other IRC's I observed a flood of spammer accounts
<jduchniewicz> and thought that stano is also one by skimming their recent messages
<jduchniewicz> my bad stano :)
<stano_> you can ask me to leave
<zmatt> their contributions have been a bit inexplicable but he's not a spambot ;)
<jduchniewicz> the stew link got me sus
<zmatt> the stew was a bit weird
<stano_> yeah i just re-heated it and 13 hours was too long
<stano_> it's mush now
<zmatt> rip stew
<stano_> but i'm happy to finally have a temperature controlled stove, so i can do the stewing at 80°c. it breaks down the collagen without toughening the meat. so you can use cheap cuts.
<stano_> and you need proper nutrition to do productive work on beagle!
<stano_> before zmatt throws a fit, i'll take my leave. chears jduchniewicz
stano_ has left #beagle [#beagle]
<zmatt> I don't generally throw fits
<zmatt> you're fine
<zmatt> also, no longer here
<jduchniewicz> as long as such things are related to the discussion it is fine
<jduchniewicz> some level of humor is always welcome imo
<zmatt> it was a bit random yeah
<jduchniewicz> but random messages just clutter
<jduchniewicz> and let's be frank, there is too much gutter in the internet
<jduchniewicz> I am having several communicators/chat rooms and if I need random messages there are services which offer that :D
<jduchniewicz> anyway, now this is me cluttering

<mattb0ne> so
<mattb0ne> tiff vs bmp what is the deal
<mattb0ne> speed vs size
<zmatt> is google down?
<mattb0ne> lol
<zmatt> and wikipedia?
<mattb0ne> wrong channel lol
<zmatt> well that answer would apply regardless of the channel :P
<mattb0ne> booo
<mattb0ne> lol
<mattb0ne> i googled for about 5min
<mattb0ne> i am always tortured by technology offering stuff to get 90% of the way there
<zmatt> bmp is a format to store uncompressed images (or sometimes with lossless compression) created by microsoft and used primarily on Windows
<zmatt> TIFF is very a flexible image container format by Aldus (now Adobe) which can store compressed or uncompressed images, though it's more commonly used for uncompressed images
<mattb0ne> bmp saves faster but is a much bigger file
<mattb0ne> i fill up my harddrive too fast
<zmatt> that'll depend entirely on the details, both formats are too generic to make such statements in general
<mattb0ne> yeah
<mattb0ne> argh technology
<set_> Hey!
<zmatt> and what's a good compression to use will depend on the type of image data
<zmatt> for photographic data (including camera images), JPEG is frequently appropriate if the compression isn't required to be lossless
<mattb0ne> i would use it but the compression process adds to the save time
<zmatt> though it will reduce the time required to actually write the data
<zmatt> often enough that's the limiting factor of writing image data, not the cpu
<GenTooMan> knowing how to use the JPEG settings is very important to making sure one chooses the right settings.
<GenTooMan> for example if you want a black and white image only you're compression level doubles instantly.
<set_> B & W!
<set_> B & W * 2;
<mattb0ne> i think I can save as a numpy file
<mattb0ne> for now and I can post process later without time pressure
<GenTooMan> right no hurry <done yesterday> no pressure <now now now> etc. :D
