[Discord] <epicmania> I am installing Armbian 24.11.1 Bookworm Minimal onto my orange pi 5
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <epicmania> For wifi I have a wifi dongle which is identified in lsusb as a RTL8812au
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <epicmania> If I look in /usr/lib/modules/6.1.75-vender-rk35xx/kernel/drivers/net/wireless, I see rtl8812au listed
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <epicmania> To set up by creating the YAML file, i can run netplan try and netplan apply successfully, but then i still don't have an internet connection and ping says there was a system error

[Discord] <igorpec> please open this problem on forums as problem is complex, not really ours. Method was well tested on 1st class hardware, it works. Orangepi, vendor kernel and flanky usb device ... miracle that it works.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> @shtripok hey. paste.bin should be selecting one of three ... repeat the build once or twice
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> it should paste it to working pastebin

[Discord] <v_alis.is> If someone tries to do this. I tried various images without luck. Until I found some docs (cant find it anymore) which says that rk3588 loads SPL from emmc if available -> SPL I used on emmc wasn't compiled with btrfs support - it was default SPL + u boot BOOT SCENARIO. I am not sure how much the scenario affected the result of boot process but after purging SPL from emmc, I am a <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <v_alis.is> ble to bool binman/u-boot BOOT SCENARIO from single btrfs partition.

<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> I have a system where `overlay_prefix` is set to rockchip-rk3588 and `overlays` to `panthor-gpu`, and that makes sense, that loads `rockchip-rk3588-panthor-gpu.dtbo`. However, what do I do if I want to add another overlay that's not prefixed with rockchip-rk3588? I wanna add the overlay `orangepi-5-sata.dtbo`. But I can't just add `orangepi-5-sata` to `overlays`, right? Because i <clipped message>
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> t'd try to load `rockchip-rk3588-orangepi-5-sata.dtbo`?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> I could obviously make `overlay_prefix` empty and then set `overlays` to `rockchip-rk3588-panthor-gpu orangepi-5-sata`, but is there a more "intended" way?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> simply rename so the prefix matches
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> I don't wanna edit files in /boot, I assume that would make something go wrong with system upgrades in the future
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> I don't know whats wrong with the names, but editing their names works
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> it works until a kernel upgrade must be accompanied by a corresponding dtbo update
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> yeah probably
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> ah it seems like there's an if/else in boot.cmd, it first tries to load ${overlay_prefix}-${overlay_file}.dtbo but if that fails it tries ${overlay_file}.dtbo
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> so just adding `orangepi-5-sata` to `overlays` will work
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> ugh I installed armbian to the M.2 SSD (and added the overlay), shut down, removed the SD card, booted, it worked fine, then I ran an apt update + upgrade, it installed a new kernel, now there's a kernel oops during boot

<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <xmort> hm it might just be reboots that don't work, shutdown + reconnecting power works...
