<DC-IRC> [Matrix] <werner:matrix.armbian.com> We cannot provide images in each flavor for each device and each userspace. The amount of resources would be insane and stupid. If you need a specific combination use the build framework and create it by yourself. That is what it is made for ;)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Yes on some devices firmware updates might be frozen by default to avoid bricking. You can unfreeze via armbian-config or search for hold packages via apt and unhold them.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Will there seems to be a minimal image for edge kernel but not sure if that is what you want. both edge and vendor have their own advantages and disadvantages at this time.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <v_alis.is> I should be ok with mainline.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <v_alis.is> The only limitation I noticed so far is NPU. But other than that vendor or edge should be both ok
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <v_alis.is> Found it. Thank you. (`Armbian_community_24.11.0-trunk.351_Cm3588-nas_bookworm_current_6.11.5_minimal.img.xz`)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <v_alis.is> Is there any reason why it isn't listed on the website? Is there way to make a PR to add it there?

<p0g0> I have a failed upgrade on an OP5, it hangs early in the boot sequence at busybox, but it won't accept any keystrokes. The system typically boots from nvme0n1p1 & the kernel etc is on nvme0n1p2. I can bring up the original install image from sd card. I have backed up my unique files, but would like to just fix the boot sequence if I can instead of re-installing. I have not yet tried chroot or armbian-config. Any advice or suggestions would be welcome.

<p0g0> Got it sorted, just changed the contents of /boot [/dev/nvme0n1p1] to the /boot files in the SD card that was working.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i intend to improve oPi 5 support when i can, the installer borks it at present
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> installer would need to be completely reworked. we never get further then a wish πŸ˜‰
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> that is the plan, i am determined to get a bootable installer working one day
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> in theory i could extend `armbian-configng`, but it'll need some bootloader-awareness
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> i think its better that this stays standalone. Its quite a big chunk of code
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> but perhaps not, need to discuss this
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it'd be a verbatim fs-copy of the running OS, nothing fancy, but a bit neater than `dd if=/ of=/target`
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> talk to the-going (GH / forum) regarding possible traps and exceptions. he was trying to improve this last time
coldfeet has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i really need to get more hardware, doing this on my prod system is a pain, though i'm intimately familiar with virtualising armbian in armbian now 🀣
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> for this kind of things hw is needed, various, not just one, as there are few different methods of installing
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> but also virtualizad comes handy, at least for uefi
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> which is also not in good shape i think
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it is not, it works better as a disk image than trying to use the installer
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i'd love to get a proper cloud-init image built one day
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> i think this is already possible, there are extensions that does that, but this is not my world
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i *think* i can just add it as a build dependency, but there's tweaks i need to make to make it a proper cloud image
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> perhaps @rpardini can give you some directions here
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> looks like i'd just need to change the config drive label, neat
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> yeah, it think everything is ready, it was just not never officially provided from armbian
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> it is in the main code https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/main/extensions/cloud-init
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i know the logical thing for me to do is create a new board(/family) and take over support for it, then write the documentation on exactly how to do this
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> or you do it for x86 and we take it from there
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> x86 is harder for me, i've got less x86 than aarch64
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> then uefi arm64 πŸ˜‰ LOL
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> which is more or less the same
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> if you want some older boards, PM, can donate it, have plenty of them

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> We ❀️ ARM
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> oh, ive been meaning to ask, don't suppose anyone's seen
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> ` kernel:[ 4573.659926] Internal error: Oops: 96000044 [#1] SMP`
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> before?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> Which kernel version and which board
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> 5.10 LTS Orange Pi 5
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> armbian?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i believe so
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it's not currently responding πŸ˜…
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> kernel 5.10 is not available anymore on armbian
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it may well be the pve provided kernel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> please check a new kernel version, the currently supported kernel are 6.1 and 6.10
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> you want use it for proxmox?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it was running proxmox up until a powercut the other day
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> i can advice you to use kernel 6.10 for proxmox
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> now it runs for *some period of time* before throwing the same Oops
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> it's more stable than others kernel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i'll have to double check when i can reboot it
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> my advice is to use the mainline kernel even if in edge, it is more optimized on virtualization than the 6.1 kernel, only thing you lose is the support of some features that are not yet integrated on the mainline kernel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> like what?

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> Can I get some help with this software that runs through terminal
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> be even slightly more specific?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> thanks
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> Okay so I’m using this interpolation software called Dain, and what it does is upscale low frame rates. But to use the software you have to run it through terminal and I don’t know how any of the commands work
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> are you using ssh or serial connection?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> ssh
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I’m pretty sure
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I’m on a Mac
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> I don't know the sw you mentioned
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> you can ask on their github
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> It was last updated 2 years ago I doubt im gonna get a reply
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> they have a usage section, it's fairly self-explanatory
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I looked at the usage section and tried to replicate the commands but I still dont get it
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> you will need at least a basic understanding of how command line operations work
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I know how they worked I used to use linux
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> but the commands just wont run
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> but this <https://github.com/nihui/dain-ncnn-vulkan?tab=readme-ov-file#video-interpolation-with-ffmpeg> section literally contains everything you need
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> can you walk me through it real quick
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> cause im a lil lost
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> anyone here would need to spent time to study to write you walktrough
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> i would need a week for exampkle
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> so you know what you are asking
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i understand what it's doing, it strips the audio, splits the video into frames, processes all of them, then re-contains them, but it literally explains that
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I understand how it works
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> what is the problem then?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> πŸ™‚
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I cant any commands though
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> run*
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> be more descriptive
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> what error do you get when you run what command?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> does `dain-ncnn-vulkan -v` work?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> it tells me the command wasnt found
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> please for the love of god just copy and paste from the terminal into a codeblock, images are incredibly difficult for me
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> oh my bad
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> `jaidenallen@Jaidens-MacBook-Air dain-ncnn-vulkan-20220728-macos % dain-ncnn-vulkan -v
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> zsh: command not found: dain-ncnn-vulkan`
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> you may need to specify `./dain-ncnn-vulkan`, i don't recall the macos defaults
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> I can paste the command after I specify?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> thats right yeah
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> you shouldn't blindly paste, and should really write a wrapper script imo
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> Why cant I just use the exact commands the usage text gives me
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> guys it's better move this to #ID:854735915787878463 thanks πŸ™‚
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> can you just explain how I can find the source fps and format
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> like I dont know where to put a file for it to be found by the command
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> as i told you if you want proceed with this thread write on #ID:854735915787878463
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nompyy> alr
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> confirmed that as `Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx`, i'm assuming this is an ancient legacy kernel then?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> surely, i can advice you to make a backup of vms and migrate to kernel 6.10
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> no backup necessary, data is already considered lost, not entirely sure how to migrate to 6.10 though, `armbian-config` doesn't see any other kernel options
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> not do it
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> use a frash installation
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> and install it through proxmox port github project
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> that's a pain
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> i already do it for my cluster
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i'll have to flash a new SD card
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> yes
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> orangepi 5 not have spi nor?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it does
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <superkali> use it for the bootloader and nvme for the system πŸ™‚
