<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> yo
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I've got a CM3588 here i misconfigured the FSTAB
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> itsa not booting anymore
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Anyone know how i might access the EMMC in order to revert my changes?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> The friendly elec nas board
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I would prefer to not have to reflash it if possible
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Nomrally in this situation i would just use a live usb but i don't think this board can boot from USB
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> My first thought was to simply flash an SD card with another OS and bboot into that
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> My first thought was to simply flash an SD card with another OS and boot into that
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Then mount the emmc and edit the fstab
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> but i do have a USB serial dongle, and the software for flashing the emmc
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <hjares> If during Armbian update/upgrade I see that firmware was updated, do I need to run armbian-config and install firmware or is this installed during update?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> This package contains binaries used by wifi dongles for example. A simple restart will do. No further action necessary.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nicod_sbc> Old and New images work on mine. So maybe those having issues is the i compatibel emmc vs uboot.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> On the friendlyelec boards that will probably work. They have a button to bypass emmc and force boot sdcard. Should check their wiki
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <wsy1> Didn't have time to test the new image yet, will try it though! Thanks for testing them.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <nicod_sbc> I used to have a simular problem when using Odroid eMMC. Now use OPi eMMC and no issue's anymore. It's with some uboot versions that it makes booting from sd impossible. I know others have issue's, but I tested them all and they work on my PBP. I did see there's a patch for a boot issue on RK3399. So maybe it's for your issue.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> The default boot order seems to be SD card first
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> Yes but that's a software hack on the bootloader on the emmc. In hardware Rockchip boot order is spi, emmc, sdcard
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> Friendlyelec is friendly enough to make it work for us
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Oh gotcha
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Lol
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Anyone here using the Rk3588?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I have it running some basic servers and was curious about using the NPU for image classification/speech synthesis
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Anyone here using the Rk3588's NPU?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> I'm skeptical of there being any usable software support for the NPU... Other than the same Rockchip examples we always see for YOLOv8
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I've found some of this stuff with some LLMs
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> https://github.com/Pelochus/ezrknpu
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Havent gotten it to work however
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I think my issues stem from the distrobution i am running however
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> Probably heavily kernel dependent as well
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> Probably heavily kernel dependent as well.. if he's using Joshua rieks image then I'm pretty sure that's still the 5.10 "legacy" BSP kernel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I should have stuck with my gut, i had intended to install a new distribution on my board as everyone was saying their came preinstall with android but when it arrived it was running openmediavault/debian bookworm
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> so i stuck with it
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I should have stuck with my gut, i had intended to install a new distribution on my board as everyone was saying theirs came preinstall with android but when it arrived it was running openmediavault/debian bookworm
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <lanefu> Yeah friendlyelec ended up shipping a OMV image on the 2nd batch of those NAS boards which was smart on their part... But yeah probably not what you want on yours
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> My usecase was in fact a NAS and some related services like calibre so i figured it would be fine
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Anyways to run the drivers/kernal hacks i need for the NPU on bookworm?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I could always reflash but its a pain
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Hmm actually, you mentioned booting from the SDcard first was a bootloader trick
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> do you know if there are there any similar tricks to boot from a sata device?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I was intending to try one of these out on the board
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I was intending to try one of these out on the board
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I don't care about the speed of the storage just capacity
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it's hilariously underpowered, there's a discussion thread on whispers github <https://github.com/ggerganov/whisper.cpp/issues/1557>
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Any tasks its good at?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> in theory chainloading should work, it's how i used to boot back in the day
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> being power efficient (it's turned off)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> I've used some "OSes" that just chainload in the past on older hardware but i don't know of any for arm
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Lol. you saying its not even worthwhile for basic image classification?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> In a NAS application thats pretty helpful
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it can't even run a tiny language model, iirc using one of the little cores is faster for nearly everything
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Hmm? i've seen examples of it running llms faster than on the cpu
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> which models? most are too big for it to handle

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <ideallykafei> Inference certainly isnt fast but its not snail's pace slow
