<ablu> JaMa: what does that sync attempt to fix anyway? A clean reboot does a sync and in case of a crash sync may at most reduce the window a bit?
<JaMa> ablu: I guess author refers to not clean reboots
<JaMa> if it's some test machine where he just hacks kernel, updates stress-ng and reboots as soon as make finishes or something like that
<ablu> JaMa: Hm, though it may still crash during a sync leaving an inconsistent state. A build to /tmp + move would probably be more robust.
<JaMa> he already removed it in later version, so I guess this discussion isn't necessary

<sa7mfo> Hello! How is coreutils selected? My image does not include the coreutils (nor busybox) and I'm not sure why. Should I inherit something in my image file? Is it usually part of the distribution? Machine?

<landgraf> sa7mfo: install packagegroup-core-boot ?
<sa7mfo> I have these lines in my image file:require recipes-core/images/core-image-minimal.bb
<sa7mfo> inherit core-image
<sa7mfo> Is not that packagegroup selected by core-image?
rfuentess has joined #yocto
<landgraf> sa7mfo: check bitbake -e output. in some cases if IMAGE_INSTALL is used with += instead of :append packagegroup-core-boot is not installed (see yocto reference manual)

<sa7mfo> landgraf, not what I can see https://pastebin.com/vQ2sEiPW
<sa7mfo> landgraf, thank you btw
<landgraf> sa7mfo: as you can see -boot is not in the final list
<sa7mfo> Ah
<landgraf> sa7mfo: check from line 10 and below.
<sa7mfo> Oh, I actually found it now
<sa7mfo> IMAGE_INSTALL:imx8mp:append = " linux-firmware-rtl8188 "
<sa7mfo> IMAGE_INSTALL:imx6ull:append = " linux-firmware-rtl8188 "
<sa7mfo> IMAGE_INSTALL:imx8mp:append = " rtl8188eu "
<sa7mfo> IMAGE_INSTALL:imx6ull:append = " rtl8188eu "
<sa7mfo> Why does such lines mess it up?
<sa7mfo> imx8mp and imx6ull is machines

<enok71> Does anyone know if there is some menuconfig configuration option required for u-boot to execute a boot.scr or uenv.txt included in a fitimage? My boot.scr does get added to the fitimage by the kernel-fitimage.class, but it seems to have no effect at boot. Or is it some entry in the configuration section of the fitimage that is needed?

<tlwoerner> jonmason: rburton: (OT) who would be a good person to speak with regarding Arm SystemReady?
<rburton> tlwoerner: depends on what the question is. really dumb ones: me or jon.
<tlwoerner> most likely the profile for embedded systems... IR? i think
<rburton> yeah IR
<tlwoerner> does Arm SystemReady impose any sort of constraints/requirements on partitions or partition layouts?
<tlwoerner> specifically, is a separate /boot partition *required*?
<rburton> only that imposed by EFi
<tlwoerner> okay... does EFi require a separate /boot partition? ;-)
<rburton> i believe EFI requires an ESP
<rburton> (but if you're trying to squeeze a system then i wouldn't be surprised if uboot supported a non-standard setup with just an ext4 filesystem which contained the ESP files and the rootfs)
<tlwoerner> rburton: okay, thanks for the insight
<khem> the partition is usually mapped under boot as /boot/efi
<tlwoerner> oh, that could work
Michael_Guest has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<tlwoerner> i see that, according to wikipedia, EFI ESP requires log files to be store in the ESP (e.g. /boot) - ouch!
<tlwoerner> (if i'm reading it right)

<Guest86668> Hello, I need to include some header files located in a non standard path, for example /usr/include_xyz/
<Guest86668> The component I compile uses Cmake, how is this usually handled in Yocto?
<Guest86668> I know gcc accepts -I =/usr/include_xyz/ whre = is to indicate the path should be taken relative to the sysroot
<Guest86668> Is there any other cleaner way?
<mischief> khem: yes, they existed, pre-meson.
<rburton> mischief: https://git.yoctoproject.org/poky-contrib/commit/?h=ross/gst&id=230833b8b1d49b1d890b1eb8a2c056dec81dba4e
<rburton> Guest86668: i take it the cmakelists isn't sensible and doesn't use pkgconfig or anything
<Guest86668> yes is not using pkgconfig
<rburton> Guest86668: add -I${RECIPE_SYSROOT}/stupid/include/path to CFLAGS
<rburton> well, CPPFLAGS
<Guest86668> ok, but that will work only in the recipe right?
<Guest86668> if I try to use the SDK It will not work by default I suppose
<rburton> Guest86668: in the sdk you can tell it where the file is the same way, by setting CFLAGS
<rburton> Guest86668: if the header is in a non-standard location, how would the package normally find the headers?
<Guest86668> ok, clear
<Guest86668> I dont know much about cmake + pkgconfig is this an alternative approach?
<rburton> the usual way is headers in a standard location and something like pkgconfig to find them
<Guest86668> ok, I need to read on this
<Guest86668> thanks
jmd has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<rburton> if this is someone elses code then the readme or whatever should tell you how to use it. if its something you or a colleage wrote, don't put headers in fully places, it just makes things difficult :)
<Guest86668> its from a supplier
<Guest86668> the have 2 versions of the same header files
<Guest86668> and this is how they handle it
<rburton> sigh
<Guest86668> yeah
<mischief> rburton: ship it!
<rburton> Guest86668: basically set CPPFLAGS to include the crazy path and that will tell cmake where to look
<Guest86668> yeah, I thik I will try this first. Thanks a lot for the pointer
