<qschulz> o/
<manuel1985> Can anyone give me some advice on how to diagnose this?
<manuel1985> Error: Transaction check error:
<manuel1985> file /etc conflicts between attempted installs of bly-dev-appconfig-1.0-r0.aarch64 and modemmanager-1.12.12-r0.aarch64
<manuel1985> The thing is the only change I made is in some completely unrelated recipe.
<manuel1985> That other recipe is downloading some tarball from AWS S3 and I all did was to change the URL.
troth has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<qschulz> manuel1985: /etc being a file is weird, can you check that they are actually files (can have a look into the image directory of each recipe - which is ${D} BTW)

<manuel1985> qschulz: Thanks for your input. Will check. Will likely take me some time, because we have rm_work in place and the work directories are all gone.

vladest has quit [Quit: vladest]
<manuel1985> qschulz: Did so. /etc was a dir, not a file, and had perm=700. This is in line what someone on the internet experienced as well. Thing is, the recipes were not in any way special. They just had a normal 'install -d ${D}/etc/something' in 'do_install()'. For some reason 'install' defaulted to 700 for these recipes.

<kanavin> RP: testing branches from poky-contrib doesn't expose issues in oecore/nodistro build :(
<kanavin> RP: but I sent a patch as I spotted that earlier ;)
zpfvo has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]

<RP> kanavin: I saw as I caught up, I have it queued, thanks! :)
<RP> kanavin: that also explains the testing issue. It all depends how you configure your build and if you setup an oe-core branch or not (my scripts do for -next)
<RP> kanavin: I was a little bemused by the bounces from ross' intel address
<kanavin> RP: I was also wondering why Eric/Emma Anholt is in there
<kanavin> RP: I generally just push to poky-contrib, then start a build correcting poky URL only
<RP> kanavin: git am pulled the addresses from the patch signed-off-by lines
<kanavin> RP: that means people are spammed unnecessarily
<RP> kanavin: right, poky-contrib will miss the oe-core test. Just something to be aware of I guess
<RP> kanavin: yes, I think it depends which options you use with git am

<qschulz> how come fedora35/debian11 aarch64-gcc gives me a 5KB smaller (on ~125KB) for the same sources than Yocto's?
<rburton> different compiler flags?
<rburton> well, different compiler versions, different compiler flags passed, different default flags
<rburton> you can easily drill into the ELF to determine what segments are different sized
<qschulz> 11.2.0 for yocto's 11.2.1 for Fedora's
<qschulz> I see that there are also different build flags for aarch64-gcc itself
<qschulz> I didn't expect such a big difference in size, and unfortunately for me, this was an issue for U-Boot SPL for the RK3399 :(

<JPEW> manuel1985: You usually don't want multiple devices to have the same host key
<manuel1985> JPEW: I know, that's why I'm asking :)
<JPEW> manuel1985: Ah. I'm not a security person so I don't really know what bad things can happen if you do that
<JPEW> manuel1985: We've been looking at transitioning to certificates to reduce some of those problems.... I don't know exactly how it works, but I guess you can sign each unique host key with a cert, then allow that cert on the client side without having to do each individual device
<JPEW> Assuming you can do the signing some how when you provision the device

<ernstp> I was going to write a bug for something that affects module.bbclass (or maybe module-base.bbclass). But it turns out I can only reproduce it if I have a thing meta-freescale uses. But it would be hard to fix it from meta-freescale since you can't append bbclasses...
<ernstp> if I can build a fix that's nice enough maybe it can be included in base poky anyway..

<user123> I have added meta-qt5 layer to my yecto build.I want to run an animation with gif file format(animation.gif). When I check On QT5 code src the recipe qt5base has src code for all imageformats(gif file plugin src code) but in qtbase_git.bb,PACKAGECONFIG_SYSTEM ?= "jpeg libpng zlib" there is no gif format defined.
<user123> Please help me out how to provide support in build to have libgif.so?

<zeddii> option b) use pre-released SRCREVs ?
* zeddii is just full of not-ideal suggestions today

<qschulz> zeddii: I could but that would mean I'd get stuck to whatever I set it to, without benefiting from later SRCREV bumps automatically
<qschulz> mmmmmm, wondering what SRCREV_machine := "${@d.getVar("SRCREV") if d.getVar("LINUX_VERSION") >= 5.14.12 else "harcoded-rev-for-5.14.12"}"
<qschulz> would do
<qschulz> (obviously something smarter for the version comparison since it's a string)
<qschulz> question is if tlwoerner would accept that :p

<jaskij[m]> I want to take a stab at making a reverse dependency graph from task-depends.dot. I'm guessing that the preferred language for tooling is Python?
<kanavin> wrote a mini rant for GNU on linkedin
<kanavin> "Dear GNU Project, I fully share your vision of computing, but your release practices can be maddening. A few months ago there was a new point release of automake (1.16.4), a core GNU project (we leave the discussion of benefits of transition to meson for another post). It broke gettext and libunistring - both core GNU projects as well. There are still no releases to address this. How is downstream supposed to use your software?
<kanavin> How come you don't test your build system releases with actual GNU components that are built with them?"

<user123> qschulz: thanks, I configured it as
<user123> PACKAGECONFIG[gif] = "-gif,-no-gif,gif". Hoping now my build will have libgif.so in it.
<jonmason> aleblanc: `MACHINE=qemuarmv5 runqemu slirp serialstdio` ran fine for me
<aleblanc> jonmason, and you can get a prompt ?
<jonmason> yes
<jonmason> Poky (Yocto Project Reference Distro) 3.4+snapshot-711d173d6e0559cb988596095ab45d22a9257dec qemuarmv5 /dev/ttyAMA0
<jonmason> qemuarmv5 login:
<aleblanc> ok, going back to double check everything then :(
<khem> kanavin: 🙂 but GNU is an umbrella, projects under it are not managed by project managers like some of other projects, so its not fair to expect that every project under that umbrella keep functioning when it s autoreconf'ed, autoconf's interface to its users is configure files and they should work fine
<jonmason> aleblanc: I modified your commandline to match my env, and it ran fine. I ran `runqemu qemuarmv5 core-image-base ext4 nographic serialstdio slirp`
<khem> autoreconf is a developer activity, which happens asynchronously, some of complex projects like gcc and binutils .e.g. are still using older versions of autoconf tools and thats ok
<kanavin> khem, yes, but we do it from scratch, for better or worse
<khem> thats not normal though
<kanavin> khem, and I do think automake should at least build other things and file tickets, if not fixes
<kanavin> they changed something, and that broke things
<aleblanc> jonmason, tks for checking
<jonmason> aleblanc: re-read the original comment. I'm not on dunfell. :) Let me try again
<kanavin> khem, and even GNU users may want to build from git rather than from tarballs for various reasons

<jaskij[m]> <RP> "jaskij: yes, python is preferred" <- Python it is. I'll still probably end up depending on Graphviz for parsing, but I feel that's a fair requirement.
