yeah, that's not quite the whole story when it comes to singleton methods but for practical purposes you can see them as the same way as static methods in Java.

i'm following this tutorial : https://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html , and it makes me install rails package with gem. So i did, but typing « rails » in shell returns unknown command

Are you using rbenv for your ruby installation?

Oddmonger: really depends on the configuration of your installation.

in your case looks like you can install as a regular user

if memory serves me right it works different on ubuntu ... 'gem install rails' uses directories that only root can write to but regular users can read from.
