cfbolz changed the topic of #pypy to: #pypy PyPy, the flexible snake https://pypy.org | IRC logs: https://quodlibet.duckdns.org/irc/pypy/latest.log.html#irc-end and https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/pypy | the pypy angle is to shrug and copy the implementation of CPython as closely as possible, and staying out of design decisions

<mgorny> there's a bunch of security stuff there, any chance we could get a stdlib sync and release?

<mattip> hmm. I wonder what "gh-102388: iso2022_jp_3 and iso2022_jp_2004 codecs no longer read out of bounds" means?
<mattip> The issue is something about an alias, not an out-of-bounds fix
<mattip> ahh, it is meant to be https://github.com/python/cpython/issues/101180
<mattip> looking at the 3.9 commits is a better way to figure out what changed

<cfbolz> mattip: I'll take a quick look at the cjk stuff, I need a break from my bug
<fijal> I'm sorry about a noob python question here, but what does that mean?
<cfbolz> fijal: I think that it's one of the "frozen" modules, where cpython doesn't load the pyc file but instead it's part of the binary
<fijal> ok, it's very far from "the answer is to pip install markdown"
<cfbolz> I'm not sure about my answer, fwiw
<cfbolz> because on my machine the repr of that module looks normal
<cfbolz> and it's not a stdlib module, so I don't know what is happening

<fijal> cfbolz: you probably have markdown installed then?
<fijal> is markdown part of the stdlib?
<mgorny> no

* ronan fijal: it's a namespace package. I guess you have a non-Python 'markdown/' dir in cwd.
