<linext_> so i think i figured out a way to get 3dcustomizer.net some real usage
<linext_> turn it into a firefox/chrome extension and let it rewrite pages that use Thingiverse Customizer
<linext_> sort of a soft, opt-in type of launch
<linext_> that way client-side rendering can be brought to some users

<InPhase> linext_: Or any thingiverse page with a scad file even if customizer is disabled? :)
<InPhase> That won't make me use thingiverse again, but maybe a small crowd would appreciate that.
<InPhase> I used customizer in my designs primarily to reach the hard to reach people.
<InPhase> ie, the ones who would never install OpenSCAD.
<ndnihil> if they're not going to install openscad, odds are they aren't going to install a browser extension either

<InPhase> ndnihil: Right. That was my unspoken thought. So I think such a plugin has a utility, but it wouldn't reach the cross-section of the masses that I was reaching in the good days of the thingiverse customizer.
<InPhase> Perhaps it could, but really only if thingiverse itself pushed it.
<ndnihil> I'll put it up there
<ndnihil> whenever I get around to finishing that site
<ndnihil> it has only been 9 years
<ndnihil> I'll get to it
<ndnihil> eventually
<InPhase> Is the IRC server actually in existence after 9 years? :)
<ndnihil> yeah
<ndnihil> it's just a channel on another small network I run
<InPhase> Ah.
<ndnihil> I don't think there's anything in there
<ndnihil> the channel that is
<ndnihil> maybe the bot
<ndnihil> nope
<InPhase> Probably everybody gathered around talking about all the amazing site content.
<ndnihil> it's all people talk about on the twitters
<ndnihil> and instatoks
<InPhase> I do know the feeling. You have a good idea. You lightly start. A decade goes past.

<J23k77> why is this "EXPORT-ERROR: Can't add triangle to 3MF model." happening with lazy union ?
mmu_man has joined #openscad
<J23k77> im getting this if increase resolution so it seems to be related to the mesh size/triangle count

<guso78k> the dockerfile "docker run -it openscad/appimage-x86_64-base" worked in my place without any issues
<guso78k> I understand the main purpose of this dockerfile is to provide linuxdeploy and/or appImage

<Scopeuk> J23k77 I would guess at some artefact of grid snapping but not sure of the best way to check
<J23k77> Scopeuk it is working if i union them and also if i remove objects or separate one - so it can't be geometry related

<linext_> InPhase, I could detect when any .scad link is clicked, ask the user to pop open a new tab with 3dcustomzier.net and the code loaded
<guso78k> linext_is this a desktop feature ?
mmu_man has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<linext_> it would be a browser feature
<linext_> web browser
<guso78k> suppose chrome browser is powerful enough
<Scopeuk> Most modern browsers can register file extensions to "web apps"

<ndnihil> I broked it
<ndnihil> funny thing though, that's just 4 parts, and if I render just the one, it works fine
<ndnihil> the other three are mirrored/rotated versions of that first part
<ndnihil> and the preview looks fine
<ndnihil> but if I do it in pairs, and rotate the pairs, it's fine
<ndnihil> might have had them touching

<teepee> meh, fast-csg not manifold ;-)
<ndnihil> /tmp/.mount_OpenSCiEoyhw/AppRun.wrapped: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.29' not found (required by /tmp/.mount_OpenSCiEoyhw/AppRun.wrapped)
<ndnihil> because you show no love for older stabler dists
<teepee> lets call it ancient
<ndnihil> lets call it trusty
<ndnihil> comfy
<ndnihil> familiar even
<teepee> yes, had to move to ubuntu 20 as it did not compile on older anymoe
<ndnihil> see, you defaulted to noobuntu
<ndnihil> debian is what all the cool kids use
<teepee> I tried but could not compile the appimage tools on debian 9
<dTal> sure if ancient greaybeards are cool
<J23k77> isn't fast CSG obsolet ?
<ndnihil> and debian a couple releases back is what all the badasses use
<ndnihil> :)
<teepee> that's fine, badasses compile themselves anyway, no need for appimages :P
<ndnihil> or we chroot a newer env and run it there
<dTal> badasses value living a few years in the past because the world is going to hell
<ndnihil> I mean, there's truth in that
<dTal> that's why I said it
<ndnihil> lots of thing have gotten fucky in the past few years
<teepee> living in the past will not help though, it only makes things worse, leaving action to the people creating that hell
* teepee watching US burning down truth from afar
<teepee> very distracting
<ndnihil> eh, if you ignore tv and social media, it's not that bad

<joseph_> teepee: In the next day or so, I'll have a markdown report ready which I'll post in a pull request. This will serve as the final GSoC submission like last year. However, because this time my contributions have been modular, I'll link to all the previous PRs that have already been merged. My deadline to submit is September 25th, but I know to do it a day or two early
<teepee> yep, a bit earlier is good and with multiple links is fine, it's pretty normal
