it might just be this connection is wonky because one of these times i pressed this thing onto the device to connect with the J-Link it rebooted the device and that's not happened before

I would like to use openocd through my bus pirate to be connected to the flash. But this flash seems not to be in the available target configurations.

if you just want to read flash, something like flashrom is probably a better choice for you.

there are many ways to achieve this with various hardware but OpenOCD is not meant for that
