< rcurtin[m]> I think maybe there is a lot of usage of mlpack that we don't know or hear about... I learned from a coworker today that when she was at Google, they were closely considering using mlpack for k-means, but ended up choosing something else because their data was sharded and they were looking for a distributed implementation
< rcurtin[m]> I imagine that this type of story happens at lots of companies, but there's no reason for them to ever get back in touch with upstream, even if they do successfully use the library, because they didn't need any support. Anyway, it made me feel good to hear that story :) at least personally I get a lot out of when someone tells me that mlpack was useful or interesting for them

< shrit[m]> We need to find somekind of mlpack booster and convincer
< rcurtin[m]> agreed, we need "the mlpack cheerleading team" 😃
< rcurtin[m]> I think the examples repository is actually a big part of that---it allows people to quickly see usage for real-world applications in ways that they weren't able to see years ago

< birm[m]> Any other ideas for promoting mlpack?
< jeffin143[m]> Automatic twitter post ?? Of new releases
< jeffin143[m]> New features ??
< jeffin143[m]> Like other libraries do ?

< shrit[m]> We probably need meduim article
< shrit[m]> actually a lot of medium articles
< shrit[m]> published under the name of mlpack team
< shrit[m]> Each article should show at least either how to use mlpack in simple use case, or a set of tutorials to show how to use the model repository
mindlifter has joined #mlpack
< shrit[m]> Also to make the articles interesting it might be a good idea to show a real world use cases,
< zoq> Agreed, even if I don't like medium as a platform, they do get the marketing aspect right.

< jeffin143[m]> Also to start off
< jeffin143[m]> We can migrate our gsoc blogs there
< jeffin143[m]> They have some interesting things
< jeffin143[m]> How to market benchmark
< jeffin143[m]> Repo
< jeffin143[m]> Numbers say a lot :)
< jeffin143[m]> All those speedup , and fight against other repo
< shrit[m]> I agree with Marcus on this paltform. Also, it would be a good idea to add all the new GSoC blog directly on Medium especially those related to the examples repository
< rcurtin[m]> this all sounds like it would be really great!

< Aakash-kaushikAa> Not a shameless plus but at this point of you do a google search for "cnn c++" this is the first blog that shows up.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> And medium is really really good for publicity.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> This wasn't done directly through a mlpack channel because I don't know if that exists right now on medium but would be a great idea and not 100% sure about progress blogs but articles showing off the capability of the library would be great. And do take off.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> Shameless plug*
< shrit[m]> this one is great, we need at least 10 similar to those
< zoq> Aakash-kaushikAa: Did you activate monitorization for this one?

< zoq> Because it tells me to login to read it, so I'm wondering if that is just a setting you can control.
< shrit[m]> You mean the article, I do not have to login
< shrit[m]> Also I do not have an account on Medium
< zoq> You can read x articles for free
< zoq> And after that they ask you to signin.

< rcurtin[m]> yeah, I don't like the paywall that Medium has, but if people read Medium posts and they are popular, then it seems like it is the best way to go 😃
< shrit[m]> It seems then that I do not read a lot from Medium which is true

< Aakash-kaushikAa> Hey @zoq i haven't activated monetization, every story on medium is behind that wall which allows 3 articles per month and the second reason i cannot setup something like that is because there paying system doesn't have India as a valid country.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> Though it allows you to create a friend link anyone who goes through that link can read the story without any hassles, i can add that on top of the article as medium shows you a little bit of the article even behind that pay wall. That way anyone can read the complete thing
< Aakash-kaushikAa> Btw just a tip incognito always works when you want to read an article that is behind the pay wall.
< zoq> Aakash-kaushikAa: hehe, yes that's what I do :)
< zoq> I mean don't get me wrong I like the idea to earn something with it, but if we want to put something on medium as mlpack, I would deactivate it.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> No no, I don't have any intentions to earn but you see they mention that you can only do that if you are enrolled in their partner program and as i said india is not a valid country so they block us that way.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> If we have a account setup in some other country that is enrolled in that program i would be more than happy to write through that too.
< Aakash-kaushikAa> Btw good night guys, 2 am here 😛 let me know what are your thoughts on it and let's see what we can do for it.
< zoq> See you tomorrow.

< jonpsy[m]> <shrit[m] "published under the name of mlpa"> This sounds interesting. Let me add further to that, back in 2020 Analytics Vidhya reached out to me to write on their behalf. The way it works is, I write an article then I request Analytics Vidhya team to review my article and then they post it under their "banner".
