<Cheaterman>
Bliblibli buddiez I hope y'all doing goodie!!! Whoaaaaaa you guys are a thing too! Amazing
<Cheaterman>
It's honestly hard to find all the communities around these things :-) - right now I'm working on N2+
<Cheaterman>
One thing that would help me a _lot_ with my kernel config, is understanding the exact names of things
<Cheaterman>
AIUI the S922X is part of the G12B family?
<Cheaterman>
Meanwhile the GPU is a G52, is that correct?
<Cheaterman>
Is it also correct that in kernel config GXBB refers to the family the G12B is part of?
<Cheaterman>
Thanks in advance :-)
<Cheaterman>
Admittedly I should just snoop the n2_defconfig from hardkernel's kernel fork to double check all this, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to get actual confirmation instead of continuously inferring stuff (and invariably getting some of it wrong)
<Cheaterman>
Either way, love the work being put in for these SoCs, and pretty sure I'll love my S922X too as soon as I get to test the graphics perf :)
<Cheaterman>
CPU perf already impresses me, and thermals make zero sense (how can't this thing break the 60°C mark hahaha, awesome
<Cheaterman>
)
<Cheaterman>
Uhm there's one thing I just realized
<Cheaterman>
I'm currently building this because it's been recommended to me by several people working with N2+: https://github.com/tobetter/linux
<Cheaterman>
But I'm suspecting this doesn't have all the latest and bestest from linux-amlogic
<Cheaterman>
(especially given I'm building 5.16.16)
<Cheaterman>
(and I see for example that you guys updated the SPI flash node name for N2+ in 5.17)
<xdarklight>
Cheaterman: correct, S922X is part of the G12B SoC family. it's also correct that G12B silicon uses a Mali-G52
<xdarklight>
Cheaterman: we're assuming in here that you are running the mainline kernel (not the vendor kernel): the arm64 defconfig should have all drivers you need. copying the .config from hardkernel may result in non-working functionality as their kernel is based on Amlogic's vendor kernel (which means: other drivers, older kernel version)
<xdarklight>
Cheaterman: I am not aware of the changes from the tobetter fork, so I can't comment on why someone should use it
<Cheaterman>
xdarklight: Thanks, interesting point ; worth noting I tweaked it quite a lot manually (hence having all these questions), I'll try booting it, if it fails I'll probably rebuild from the newer defconfig :-)
<Cheaterman>
xdarklight: And thanks for info about the tobetter fork, I'll also switch to standard mainline (or, well, gentoo-sources) for the next build
