<TuxJobs> I can see that my LibreELEC RPI4 box has a DHCP lease on my local network, but what do I need to do to be able to connect via FTP to it? And is that "plain FTP" or "over SSH" or something else? I tried finding this in the manual but found nothing.
<TuxJobs> I can't find any notes made by myself about having set this up.
<TuxJobs> (I fear that taking out the memory card and putting it in again too frequently will cause too much wear and tear.)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> LE does not have an embedded FTP server, but most FTP clients can use SFTP = FTP over SSH
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> (which is different from FTPS = SSL secured FTP)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> FTP uses port 21, SFTP uses port 22 (same as SSH)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> then whatever credentials you set (if not using root/libreelec)

<LEBot> [slack] <CvH> For windows just use winscp, just works
<TuxJobs> I'm on Linux. Using FileZilla.
<TuxJobs> Do you mean that "root/libreelec" are the default credentials?
<TuxJobs> Getting "connection refused" when using those.
<TuxJobs> Are you sure it's on by default? Or must I set something up in Kodi/LibreELEC on the TV, or maybe even in the config.txt on its memory card?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> SSH is not enabled by default
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> although you do have to click past the “do you want to enable it” page in the first-run wizard

<TuxJobs> Ah. I must have forgotten about that screen since it's been a number of months since I last dealt with this.
<TuxJobs> So I should enable it in its settings while it's running?
<oblikoamorale> how would you enable ssh via OSD menu when it's not running? ;p
<TuxJobs> oblikoamorale: ?
<oblikoamorale> depends on what you mean exactly by "while it's running", for sure
<chewitt> Settings > LE Settings > Services > SSH
<chewitt> use a remote or USB keyboard to navigate
<chewitt> if neither are possible, power the rpi4 off and edit the cmdline.txt file on the SD card
<chewitt> add "ssh" to boot params in the file
<chewitt> cmdline.txt NOT config.txt
<chewitt> power on and the SSH daemon has been forced to start
<TuxJobs> Thanks.

<TuxJobs> Auth failed. Hmm.
Fenster has joined #libreelec
<TuxJobs> Worked after I changed the password in the settings.
<TuxJobs> Although it let me enter passwords several times only to then state that it was "too weak" and that it was "unchanged", forcing me to go back and try again from scratch each time.
<TuxJobs> Interesting. On the first test transfer, it transferred at 45 MB/s for the first 60% or so, then dropped sharply down to 5-6 MB/s.
<TuxJobs> Not that it matters at all in practice, but I kinda expected full LAN speed since they are both connected to the NAT router and are physically close.
<chewitt> there are numerous buffers
<chewitt> disks have buffers, userspace apps have buffers, the kernel has buffers
<chewitt> once you fill up all the buffers in memory you're waiting on disk to be written

<TuxJobs> I suppose.
<TuxJobs> Bad news (for me): I have just spent a while sitting down in front of the TV with the LibreELEC/Kodi RPI4 and test-watched a bunch of videos (both short and long ones), and now I remember why I stopped dealing with this a few months ago: the video works perfectly fine, but the audio "cuts out" (temporarily mutes) every 5-10 seconds...
<TuxJobs> It makes everything unwatchable. I really hope that there is some simple fix and that it's not broken hardware.
<TuxJobs> Naturally, I have checked that this isn't something with the video files themselves (they work on the PC).
<TuxJobs> One of the files that does this is a 3.3 GB MKV. Another is a 282 MB MP4.
<TuxJobs> Not sure if this is more related to the RPI4 hardware, LibreELEC or Kodi, though.

<chewitt> what "modes" does the TV support?
<chewitt> what modes are flagged in the media?
<chewitt> and .. what did Kodi try to play them as?
<chewitt> create some sample files and put them somewhere that we can download from to test them
<chewitt> pm the links if needed

<TuxJobs> chewitt: The TV is from 1989 (CRT) and is PAL. I don't know what you mean by "modes flagged in the media".
<chewitt> ahh
Fenster has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<chewitt> what audio output are you using then?
<chewitt> and have you tried adding "audio_pwm_mode=1" to config.txt ?
LEBot has quit [Remote host closed the connection]

<TuxJobs> chewitt: Tried all three audio outputs and also resetting the audio settings to default. Also tried playing FLAC music files and they show no signs of any glitches on the same setup.
<TuxJobs> chewitt: No, I have not tried that thing. What does it do?
<TuxJobs> chewitt: I read up on it now.
<TuxJobs> chewitt: And while I was just happily going to add it to config.txt, I noticed that it already IS there: dtparam=audio=on
<TuxJobs> audio_pwm_mode=1
<TuxJobs> chewitt: I really got my hopes up there for a moment...
<TuxJobs> Should I try it set to =2 instead?
<TuxJobs> I'm just gonna try it anyway.
<TuxJobs> God dammit. What now, then?! "[ Error writing /flash/config.txt: Read-only file system ]"
<TuxJobs> I see no /config.txt, so isn't /flash/config.txt the right path? It's the only config.txt I seem to have.
<TuxJobs> My skin is crawling from this problem.
<chewitt> mount -o remount,rw /flash
<chewitt> then edit
<chewitt> the filesystem is read-only by default

<TuxJobs> chewitt: AHA! Changing audio_pwm_mode from 1 to 2 made it work! No more audio glitching when watching the videos! Thanks. I was beginning to go crazy.
<chewitt> nice :)
<TuxJobs> (Even though the instructions for using the RPI4 on a CRT specifically told to use audio_pwm_mode=1, BTW.)
