oblikoamorale: I've now tried that. There is no such thing as "Video Calibration" in "Settings -> System -> Display". It only has three options and they are just resolution setting, "blank all displays" and something else unrelated. All are under the sub-category "General" and there is no other category or more options there.
<TuxJobs2>
Or perhaps they changed things around since it was written.
<TuxJobs2>
Either way, it's gone. Just like any "horizontal adjust" option as mentioned earlier.

TuxJobs2: my guess you'd probably have to change the settings level to expert for that option to appear, bottom option of left vertical menu of Settings / System
<TuxJobs2>
I hate it when crucial options are hidden by default. But that's a relief to hear. Checking now...

oblikoamorale: I switched it from "Standard" to "Advanced" went back and then back into Display again, and while it has a few more options, including a "Calibration" sub-category, there is *still* not any option to calibrate anything. The only option is the ability to switch between 2 or 4 buffers something.
<oblikoamorale>
you need Expert level

There is yet another level?
<oblikoamorale>
yes, press that option again
<oblikoamorale>
I just told you... twice :p
<TuxJobs2>
oblikoamorale: It worked now. I couldn't imagine that it would be *that* cryptic.
<TuxJobs2>
As to have yet another "mode", that is.
<TuxJobs2>
I'm definitely writing this down to save me from future frustrations of the same kind.
<oblikoamorale>
not a LE problem, it's a Kodi design
<TuxJobs2>
oblikoamorale: I must confess to being unsure about the difference between LibreELEC and Kodi, but as I understand it, Kodi is a "fullscreen" media player used in various contexts.
<TuxJobs2>
This kind of "hide important things from the user" things have always only caused problems, at least for me. I wish software developers would stop doing it.
<TuxJobs2>
And LibreELEC is more a minimal OS that bundles it for the RPI4.
<oblikoamorale>
LE is just enough OS to run Kodi. the GUI has just a few of LE specific dialogs, the rest is Kodi
<oblikoamorale>
I'm just noting that your frustrations are misdirected :p
<TuxJobs2>
One thing that I do find annoying is that the volume is extremely low on these TV episodes, which they shouldn't be because I've viewed them on the computer as well, but they are in Kodi, and thus I have to press a button on the controller (I use a cheap old USB gamepad to control Kodi) and then increase the dB of loudness compensation (or something like that), but that value seems to reset each time you view it, or perhaps per-file.
<TuxJobs2>
Oh. I should ask it in #kodi, I guess.

My RPI4 has a power on/off button on its power cable. Assuming that I'm in the Kodi menu system (not actively watching a movie), can I just flick it off with the button? Or must I always go through the Kodi/LibreELEC UI and select "shut down" inside it?

Kodi has connections to database files and other things open
<chewitt>
and the kernel is always doing something
<chewitt>
TL/DR: there is programatically no such thing as an idle system
<chewitt>
these days the amount of error checking done in filesystems etc. ensures that most of the time users will get away with power pulls
<chewitt>
but it's always "most of the time" and never "all of the time"
<chewitt>
and the old IT proverb is:
<chewitt>
"there are two types of user: those who take back-up seriously, and those who didn't lose all their data yet" :)

<TuxJobs2>
I wish that physical switch were more sophisticated, such as not instantly killing the power but rather to send a "shutdown signal" to LibreELEC.
