<KBWarrior> need help installing libreelec on raspberry pi 2w. i have tried LE11 nightly RPi2 build but i get error in mount_sysroot could not mount /flash/SYSTEM
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> Just reboot it again and the issue should resolve itself
<KBWarrior> i have tried different build even older versions but some keeps rebooting with rainbow and libreelec logo
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> old releases include old firmware .. not new enough to boot the board
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> new releases have new(er) firmware and should boot
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> but note that we stopped supporting boards with 512MB RAM
<KBWarrior> i have tried the latest build LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-11.0-nightly-20240124-16216c3.img
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> so if/when you later have something that boots but the experience isn’t brilliant .. we know (and why)
<KBWarrior> others with same board have still managed to use libreelec
<KBWarrior> i know there is no support but it still runs on this board right?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> I also thought that zero2w boards need the RPi (not RPi2) image
<KBWarrior> i just rebooted it but its still show the same mount_sysroot mount_common could not mount... error
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> this is no longer built by us (as RPi0/1 and Zero/Zero2 are 512MB and no longer supported)
<KBWarrior> what utility to write the image with? raspberry pi imager or win32diskimager?
<KBWarrior> i must be doing something wrong...
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> ^ was fixed in LE12 nightlies, but not backported to LE11
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> is the SD card 32GB or larger?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the issue has nothing to do with the SD card creator app
<KBWarrior> it's 8 gb and 4gb card
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> ignore the size .. I misread that
<KBWarrior> initially with 32gb and read that larger card could cause issue so tried with 8 and 4gb but it's still the same error
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> do you have any other Pi devices?
<KBWarrior> pi zero w
<KBWarrior> i just tried LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-12.0-nightly-20240212-73881f6.img and i get end kernel panic not syncing system is deadlocked on memory
<KBWarrior> so maybe 512 mb is too low for LE12

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> IIRC the correct image for a zero2w is the “RPi” image, not “RPi2"
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> but we don’t build that since LE10 so you won’t find it on the test server
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the files are still in the buildsysem, but you’ll need to self-build
<KBWarrior> oh
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> or you take an LE 9.2 image and copy over the firmware files from something newer
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the 9.2 image has firmware that either pre-dates the zero2w or perhaps doesn’t handle the latest hardware iterations
<KBWarrior> i even tried LibreELEC-RPi.arm-9.2.6.img
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> right, but the board is likely newer than the firmware in that image
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> firmware is backwards compatible, not forwards compatible
<KBWarrior> so how do i copy the firmwares files from newer?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> hmm.. so I am wrong an zero2w is (in silicon) an underclocked RPi3B with 512MB
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> so an RPi2 image should boot
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> (and then give poor performance)
<KBWarrior> yeah its underclocked pi 3
<KBWarrior> but i just want to try it at least
<KBWarrior> there are others who have managed to play 1080 videos
<KBWarrior> .. on pi 2w
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> ahh, you will need to edit config.txt and change something
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> RPi2/3 have 1GB RAM and set dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-384
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> RPi0/1 have 512MB and need dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-128
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> that probably resolves the deadlock on lack of RAM
<KBWarrior> yeah i played with config.txt too but i changed setting about voltage for power supply
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> remove all hacks (esp. overclocks)
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> at the moment the cma reservation doesn’t leave enough space for Kodi to run
<KBWarrior> you mean remove hash?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> edit distroconfig.txt
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> note that this change will be overwritten with each update
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> unless you self-build an RPi image which has the correct defaults for RPi0/1 hardware
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> RPi2 image has the correct defaults for RPi2/3 boards with 1GB RAM
<KBWarrior> building rpi image is beyond my scope
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> then make notes so you remember why is breaks with every update
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> s/is/it
<KBWarrior> so dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-38 doesn't go in config.txt but in distroconfig.txt?
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-38 doesn’t go anywhere
<KBWarrior> sorry i meant dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-128
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> distroconfig.txt contains dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-384
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> change that to 128
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> reboot
<KBWarrior> lots of [FAILED]failed to start *.service systemd-logind.service failed to connect stdout to the journal socket Ignoring:connection refused
<KBWarrior> failed to start conman.service

<KBWarrior> there is a line dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-384,composite=1 in distroconfig-composite.txt. should this be changed as well?
<KBWarrior> i think if i write the image file with raspberry pi imager and select pi 2w as device then it comments the line dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-128 but if i write the same image with win32diskimager.. it has 384 with no hash
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> no need to change the composit txt unless you plan to use composite output
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the network errors are due to having no network interfaces to bind services to
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the RPi imager tool does nothing to the LE image
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the LE imager tool does nothing to the LE image too
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> all they do is transfer the .img content to the SD card
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> and if this is an RPi2 image the cma value is correct for an RPi2/3 board and incorrect for RPi0/1
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> (so you need to edit the distroconfig.txt file)
<KBWarrior> it was win32diskimager, i havent tried LE imager
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> once this boots; basically you’re on your own for further support
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> because we already know the image doesn’t perform well .. hence we stopped supporting 512MB devices
<KBWarrior> it might be small change in those setting.txt files
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> I promise you .. neither tool touches the SD card to change anything
LEBot has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<KBWarrior> raspberry pi imager has some customisation like ask you what device you have and to change settings for hostname and wifi so it might make some minor change depending on what you select

<KBWarrior> pi imager has some customisation like ask you what device you have and to change settings for hostname and wifi so it might make some minor change depending on what you select
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> for RaspiOS, maybe
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> for LE, doesn’t change a single thing
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> because none of that stuff can be configured in LE from the boot partition
<KBWarrior> i haven't tried with LE imager yet.. those were with raspberry pi imager and win32diskimager
<KBWarrior> i just tried now with LE imager and guess what.. it is different again
<KBWarrior> display_auto_detect=1
<KBWarrior> dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d
<KBWarrior> dtoverlay=
<KBWarrior> disable_fw_kms_setup=1
<KBWarrior> disable_overscan=1
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> and which image did you write?
<KBWarrior> LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-11.0-nightly-20220618-b78941a.img
<KBWarrior> i know its different from last time
