<akira01>
yo guys
<akira01>
anyone use the latest kernel?
<akira01>
1
<akira01>
cause i get black screen after boot kiss fresh install
<alnn>
i used rc4 and it's fine
<alnn>
5.15-rc4
<omanom>
what did they change between rc4 and rc5?
<akira01>
I tested only with 5.14.11
<akira01>
will compile 5.15-rc5
<akira01>
maybe works maybe not
<akira01>
anyway
<akira01>
someone use openbsd with amd drivers?
<akira01>
i tried to use openbsd but the tearing in xorg cant go away
<akira01>
tried tearfree and other options but still tearing
<akira01>
maybe is problem with 7.0
<akira01>
Man
<akira01>
5.15-rc5 not works too
<akira01>
wtf

<akira01>
Nothing works
<akira01>
Probably is kiss
<omanom>
why is it "probably" kiss?
<akira01>
i did the same .config
<akira01>
Same kernel that i used
<akira01>
5.14
<akira01>
Run fine with this
<akira01>
but now i get a black screen with a fresh install
<omanom>
is your bootloader installed correctly? can you boot a different kernel from that same installation?
<akira01>
dont think is the bootloader
<akira01>
i already have this problem
<akira01>
when i tried to change my kernel what is super normal
<akira01>
The black screen is is just black
<akira01>
kiss still work
<akira01>
if i enter in chroot and make a install of wayland
<akira01>
and login after
<akira01>
it will works
<akira01>
the problem is that i cant see the login prompt
<akira01>
but if i put the login name and password
<akira01>
it will work
<akira01>
so it boot alright and decompress kernel
<omanom>
do you see any output prior to the black screen?
<akira01>
just thart kernel is decompressed
<akira01>
The normal init for kernel
<akira01>
dont say any panic or any output after
<akira01>
but
<akira01>
my kernel 5.14 when compiled give me a werror
<akira01>
i can send if you wanna see
<omanom>
put it on a pastebin site, sure
<omanom>
<akira01> but if i put the login name and password it will work ---> does that mean after you log in, a shell prompt appears? so its just the login prompt that doesn't show?
<akira01>
the login prompt and busybox init stuff dont show
<akira01>
but it works
<omanom>
so a shell prompt appears after you log in?
<akira01>
not technically
<akira01>
i mean
<akira01>
if i put a wayland compositor to run after the login
<akira01>
i will appear
<akira01>
but nothing more than that
<akira01>
i can use it normal
<akira01>
but not show the login prompt
<omanom>
do any keypresses get echoed to screen after you login?
<akira01>
dont know
<akira01>
When i tested this problem with compositor
<akira01>
i have kiss setup
<akira01>
now is a fresh install
<akira01>
dont have a wayland compositor setup
<akira01>
either network
<omanom>
you don't need a compositor or network to test that
<akira01>
yeah
<akira01>
but i can see nothing
<akira01>
after login without compositor
<akira01>
still nothing
<omanom>
so you can't see a shell prompt ($)
<omanom>
and no keypresses get echoed
<akira01>
yeah
<omanom>
what if you did something that prints output, like `kiss u`? do you see anything then?
<omanom>
what bootloader are you using? can you pass `nomodeset` to your kernel to see if anything shows up then?
<akira01>
i using grub
<akira01>
tried efistub with my fresh install but always get system busy
smartin has quit [Quit: smartin]
<akira01>
nomodeset just freeze the
<akira01>
The kernel
<akira01>
just still in Loading Linux 5.14
<akira01>
think is time to go back to gentoo or arch

omanom: `dmesg` output and your kernel parameters would be useful here

in other news, something about ungoogled-chromium itself is preventing google meet from sharing my screen. all other tests pass just fine, I can share entire screen or a tab in chromium on a webrtc test site, but not with google's sites
