<whitequark[m]>
actually, let me just check with this message
<whitequark[m]>
(was the spam removed by the bot when I removed it on Matrix or did someone do it intentionally?)
<whitequark[m]>
okay, the bot removes messages on Discord side when I kill them Matrix side, that's good
<SnowJ>
nice
<whitequark[m]>
including when they were sent on Discord

yeah it does that
<whitequark[cis]>
wasn't sure how well this thing works
<whitequark[cis]>
tbh I expected the bridging to be a lot more fragile than it actually is
<Wanda[cis]>
surprisingly well, yes
<Darius>
just us lucky IRC denizens get the full spam experience

esden (@_discord_269693955338141697:catircservices.org) is CAN Bus already supported in Glasgow ? Crowdsupply campaign page says its WIP
<whitequark[cis]>
not yet
<whitequark[cis]>
I have some CAN devices finally, but no transceiver; Mouser never processed my order for some stupid export control reasons
<tpw_rules>
is that a thing you intend to write for?
<tpw_rules>
have you worked with any common CAN IP at all?
<whitequark[cis]>
tpw_rules: nope!
<whitequark[cis]>
tpw_rules: maybe; the protocol is pretty simple iirc, and the target is appealing
<whitequark[cis]>
happy to leave it to somebody else
<tpw_rules>
okay, i haven't in detail but a lot of them have the same sort of shape
<tpw_rules>
which might be good to emulate
<whitequark[cis]>
how do thye look?
<tpw_rules>
just like the set of registers and operations and things
<whitequark[cis]>
interesting
<tpw_rules>
there's various bus level configuration settings that are quasi mandated by the spec too
<tpw_rules>
like you usually have to calculate and program the basic bit timings. it's not as simple as a baud rate
<tpw_rules>
they're also usually pretty intelligent in terms of fifos and filtering
<whitequark[cis]>
ah very interesting
<whitequark[cis]>
yeah, sounds like I would need to learn some things first
<tpw_rules>
especially if you want it to feel familiar

there can be value in going lower level though. i did a project a long time ago doing bit-level processing and corruption of messages to confuse systems
<tpw_rules>
i had some vague intention of contributing CAN to glasgow but that was a long time ago and i'm not sure i'd have the time now. i could participate in reviewing/owning such a thing though
<whitequark[cis]>
cool, thank you
