I'm transcoding some video with libx265 (from H264 video), 1080p, on an Intel 10700k, and I'm only getting.. 42 fps? shouldn't this be faster?

<StephenLynx>
if is not using hardware and is real time, I dunno.
<StephenLynx>
i wouldn't expect much.

<znf>
nah, it's static content, I'd have expected at least 60 on CPU
<znf>
I have a few hours of video to transcode and I'm not sure if I should bite the bullet and use the CPU (and wait forever, and have my fan running non-stop), or just... use my GPU and call it a day
<znf>
...or I could distribute across a few servers, but then I have to work out some network file system
<znf>
...decisions decisions

<StephenLynx>
ah yeah, indeed. when just transcoding it will give you a metric in fps too, forgot that.
<StephenLynx>
yeah, transcoding is slow on CPU.

<snoriman>
wait what? ... is `btop` showing wrong values or is the h264 decoder in ffmpeg amazingly fast? I'm only seeinng 1.7-4% CPU usage for 4K video (?)
<vanfanel64>
BtbN, thank you. text='Fri\\\, 2024-10-18 03\\\:00\\\:00 PM' did the trick
<BtbN>
I'd honestly just put the text into a file :D

<noobaroo>
what alternative software can remux to new containers other than ffmpeg? i noticed mkvtoolnix and mp4box both produce smaller file sizes than ffmpeg
<kepstin>
vanfanel64: "-filter_complex_script <filename>"; or if you're using a sufficiently new ffmpeg, "-/filter_complex <filename>" works too.
<kepstin>
hmm, you're not using complex filters tho, so it would be "-filter_script:v <filename>" or "-/filter:v <filename>" for that.
