Not bad huh? I really don't understand why some videos are so much more efficient at compression. Outside, inside, frequency of scene changes, frequency of movement, seems to be irrelevant in my experience

I really don't know, but I have a 6min clip that takes place in 1 room and its 1080p 20mbps, and not very clear. But the bitrate refuses to go down very much at all. Only if I use like crf 40 or something

Hi. Considering difficulties in ripping (or even playing with ffplay) a given DVD chapter, I dumped that chapter to a (MPEG?) file using mplayer, and ffplay can fully play it (nice!). I have a small issue when making use of this file, though: I should have 1 V, 2 a, and 6 s. (correctly reported by ffprobe from the ISO file), but ffprobe on the ripped raw chapter reports 1 V, 2 a, and 2 s (4 s missing).

When played in VLC, it shows only 2 s in the menu when playback starts but quickly fills the menu with the 4 s that were missing (I guess they start late…). Is there a way I can tell ffprobe to probe a longer sequence to get the full view?

By the way, given the order of streams in the raw file is different from the one reported by ffprobe directly from the DVD, am I right in assuming that I can match by id field? E.g. on DVD, streams 0, 1, 2 are V + a + a with ids 0x1e0 0x80 0x81, while on raw ripped file, streams 0, 1, 2 are V + a + a with ids 0x1e0 0x81 0x80 (so I assume the 2 audio streams are in reverse order).

I am aware of the issue it impacts the situation where there is 1 chapter being played in ffplay and the duration is wrong

good news is, it is not a major issue; i am aware what is causing it and will publish a fix later this month. rest assured your demuxed copies should be fine, only the duration is printed wrong during transcode or ffplay

bad news is, it will never be 100% accurate; the duration comes from the IFO structures which themselves only reveal an estimate of the duration and not the precise value
