<beastd> kierank: accepting PRs on your personal github account and later (maybe after some iterations) forwarding it to the ml would probably be easiest to keep the bar low for newcomers
ngaullier has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<frankplow> An aspect of the move to some forge-based development workflow which I don't think has been discussed enough is the increased volume of patches we can expect to receive and how the already-stretched review process copes with that.
<frankplow> kierank If you do choose to accept PRs through GitHub or something similar, it will be interesting to see how many you receive and how much time you think review would take.

<beastd> frankplow: agree. even with current amount of contributions, the bottleneck ist the review
<beastd> one advantage in the forge scenario with CI would be that we could see build and tests pass or not.
<JEEB> the positive bit in forges is that once you view something, it doesn't get marked as read. and then discussions on older threads don't necessarily pop up on top. of course means that pinging needs to be done in some other manner, but it also doesn't mean that discussion threads hide merge requests
<JEEB> also I wonder if it makes sense to set up a CI step that highlights/assigns people or group depending on the changed files
<beastd> another is that it would be more easy for every ffmpeg developer to look at still open PRs and immediately see their comments and build status (probably related a bit to what you just said JEEB)
<beastd> JEEB: would make sense to assign or ping maintainers (also if not too involved pinging past authors or committers of the touched files could make sense as well)
<JEEB> but at least getting a CI (which patchwork kind of did while it worked) shown on the forge would be good indeed
<JEEB> yea, whether it's actual pinging or just making it possible to have a "for me" filter based on something would be nice
<JEEB> also a remind me / flag for me feature would be nice since I sometimes don't have the time to go deep into a patch, but it seemed like something I could go through later
<JEEB> right now it's just one of those marked read emails which one could argue is me misusing my e-mail interface but ┐(´д`)┌

<beastd> JEEB: don't think it is misuse of your MUA. but it can get unwieldy and it's often not that accessible later on. i do sth similar to keep track.
