<dustymabe> can we get one more review on https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-streams/pull/725 - cc marmijo[m] aaradhak[m]
<walters> Apropos of nothing, I happened to come across https://github.com/u-root/u-root/issues/1477 which has a lot of useful links, but demonstrates one reason Go binaries can be so large - the presence of any usage of reflect. can suppress dead code elimination. And ignition e.g. definitely uses reflect
<walters> (And people tend to use reflect. in places where in Rust one might turn to macros or generics)
<dustymabe> walters: nice. thanks for sharing
<dustymabe> definitely would like to reduce our binary sizes

<darknao> this pr looks weird, why I'm not seing anything in Changes? and I see a lot of unrelated commits as well...
<darknao> can you rebase you branch from the develop one?
<dustymabe> darknao: it was OK but then aobrien[m] tried to rebase it and made a mistake. He's trying to fix it now.
<dustymabe> aobrien[m]: do you need help?
<aobrien[m]> yes please!
<dustymabe> ok - i'll help you at the end our of meeting here
<dustymabe> darknao: sorry for the ping (I thought it was ready) - will drop you a line when we've fixed it (here in a bout 20 minutes)
<darknao> no problem, I was actually going to ask you something
<dustymabe> go for it

<darknao> https://builds.coreos.fedoraproject.org/prod/streams/stable/builds/37.20221106.3.0/x86_64/meta.json vs https://builds.coreos.fedoraproject.org/prod/streams/stable/builds/38.20230527.3.0/x86_64/meta.json : In one, i have the parent-pkgdiff that seems to have everything I need for the release notes thing, but on the other one, this field is not here (but I do have a simple pkgdiff field)
<darknao> do you know why there is a difference between those 2 builds?
<darknao> is pkgdiff a new field implemented recently?
<dustymabe> darknao: i'll look right after this meeting i'm hopping into
<dustymabe> thanks for asking!
<darknao> I would really like to avoid writing 200 lines of code just for this, like it was in the previous website :)
<dustymabe> darknao: can you look at the PR again. I think we got it rebased right now
<darknao> looks good +1

<darknao> ah right, I was looking into it and didn't understand why I wasn't able to see the updated code in the develop branch
<darknao> let's try again :p
<dustymabe> :)
<dustymabe> darknao: does the website get deployed on a schedule?

<dustymabe> darknao: ok - back to the pkgdiff stuff
<dustymabe> looking
<darknao> we usually deploy at least once a week
<dustymabe> darknao: https://github.com/coreos/coreos-assembler/pull/1507 looks relevant here
<darknao> yes, and this https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-pipeline/pull/247, which make me think we should see this parent-pkgdiff everywhere 3 years later
<dustymabe> right.. still digging
<dustymabe> ok I think I see the issue
<dustymabe> so basically parent-pkgdiff will be populated only IF the parent isn't equal to the previous commit in the history (i.e. if we did a build we want to ignore/skip)
<dustymabe> so I think the summary is if parent-pkgdiff isn't empty then use it. if it is empty use pkgdiff
<dustymabe> it's possible we should change our code to always populate parent-pkgdiff, but I don't really want to make that change without consulting with jlebon who is on leave right now
<dustymabe> darknao: another example of this is the latest `testing` does have parent-pkgdiff (because we had a intermediate build we had to throw away): https://builds.coreos.fedoraproject.org/prod/streams/testing/builds/38.20230609.2.1/x86_64/meta.json
<darknao> ok then, fine to me. At least we don't have to build the diff ourselves like we used to
<dustymabe> yep. that is nice
<dustymabe> darknao: we will still have to parse commitmeta.json, though :( - for the full package list
<darknao> yeah but that's easy, and we already do that for the short package list
<dustymabe> +1
<dustymabe> walters: from the page you linked to earlier there was a comment that linked to https://github.com/xaionaro/documentation/blob/master/golang/reduce-binary-size.md which is interesting too

<ash[m]> Hi dustymabe As part of adding the username to the debug-pod , we can get the username printed like - `Created Pod: openshift fedora-coreos-pipeline/aaradhak-pod-7d96642c-9b66-4698-8c7e-4761d718be4c-fltkr-z3vjp` . Kindly let me know if this format is good.

<dustymabe> for that last part you can just take the first 8 characters from the UUID
<dustymabe> also it might be nice to include the architecture in there
